They thrive on "the old ultra-violence," but they don't want people watching it to behave that way. Either that or it's easier than coming up with compelling stories and characters, and that wouldn't have mass appeal for the herd...
Beats me.
Maybe it's only a movie, at least to those with self-control, and anyone who can't be trusted to watch it or to play a "violent" video game without acting out in the real world can't be trusted without a watcher and a controller...
Maybe some are counting on that...
