A First in Connecticut

That he said he had no idea the new law was in effect makes my sympathy level go way down. [More]

If he was telling the truth, as opposed to just trying to minimize his consequences, it means he's been letting others carry the load.I'll have a tough time getting behind supporting him unless I can establish to my satisfaction that he was simply lying about that to protect himself.

Based on that report, my guess is that he was lying. The article said he had 11 rounds in a magazine with a 15 round capacity. That suggests to me that his intent was to be able to quickly chamber 1 round* so that in an emergency he could say that he only had the mandated 10 in the mag. He just didn't plan on the cop counting his mag rounds during a traffic stop. He would have been smarter to say he miscounted when loading the mag, which would have given him the appearance of trying to comply. The authoritahs always like it when you try to grovel.

(* Never mind the stupidity (in my personal opinion, YMMV) of not having a round chambered in his carry gun in the first place.)
