I got flamed on The Captain's Journal for making a comment that many "conservatives" were knee-jerk supporters of police - no matter what, and no matter the legality or unintended consequences of the tactic.
I've written comments on websites regarding "sobriety (AKA, show me your papers) checkpoints," and other police tactics, and had other commenters explain to me that I was a commie bastard, and that the police could "search their person, car, or house" anytime, because, "they have nothing to hide" - unlike people like me, who oppose these tactics.
Most of these "I support police no matter what" folks are "conservatives." It's only when they call police because of a dispute with a family member who is off his or her meds, or having a medical issue, and the person with the issue is summarily killed by police they begin to have a problem.
And these "conservatives" are on whose side? It's pretty clear they're not on the side of liberty.
