This happens more often than you might think. Searching female prisoners is especially dicey; the officers are setting themselves up for a lawsuit or an assault complaint every time they do it. (Even the female officers; everyone knows all female cops are lesbians.[sarc])
It happens a lot in northern climes in the winter. Two Chicago police officers were murdered by a back-seat prisoner several winters ago when they missed a gun concealed within several layers of heavy clothing.
