THE ZELMAN PARTISANS HAVE AN OFFER FOR TED NUGENT [More]This whole sorry episode made me recall how Tom Gresham almost single-handedly spearheaded the generally (but not completely) accepted rehabilitation of Jim Zumbo, and to speculate that this could be another lemons into lemonade opportunity: Have a recognizable radio host moderate a dialog between Nugent and a Jewish RKBA/liberty leader and begin his process back into forgiveness, acceptability and good graces.
Thing is, it looks like he doesn't want to and is doubling down. His dismissal of JPFO's statement as "sad bullshit [from] failed followers" (of Aaron Zelman) make reconciliation there problematic. That pretty much leaves TZP -- perhaps they will succeed in getting a response to their outreach and establish a public dialog.
It does make it problematic for NRA, which takes political considerations most seriously. The question in my mind is, will he take one for the team and not expect them to deal with a mess of his inartful making, or will he force them kick him out and strike back loudly all the way?
And before anybody gets all bent on my choice of post title and the stereotype implications, it comes from the very first comment on the piece over at the TZP site.

The Nuge is just one of several prominent missteps by the NRA in trying to "connect" with diverse groups and "rage" over the 2A. They hooked up with Glenn Beck a number of years ago. Got him as the Keynote speaker at several Annual Meetings. Then he turned on them. The Nuge, even though a Board Member is a ticking time bomb of personal problems, police blotter, and political threats. Though he is a gun owner, as I have always said, that doesn't make you my ally. Nor does it make you someone I would hang out with.

Besides which, the whole TZP team, Jews and friends of Jews alike, agreed on including the line "Have we got a deal for you" in the news release. We figured that Aaron Zelman -- one of a kind, that man -- wouldn't have blinked at a Jewish-ism like that. After all, didn't he also dub his JPFO "America's most aggressive civil rights organization"? So if anybody takes offense, send them to us.
Thanks for the interesting take on this, David.
He's not called the Motor City Madman for nothing.
I posted this on facebook, thought it might bring up some good thoughts here;
Reading what Ted has written, I don't think Ted was or is saying anything negative about Jews, it seems to me that he was marveling at the stupidity of a person of Jewish heritage, of all people being for gun control given the history they have with government tyranny and the mistreatment they have experienced at the hands of government agents around the world.
It really is a wonder that any Jewish folks would want gun control, or really be in favor of liberal ideas that have been behind the wanton slaughter of their people around the world.
I could be wrong, but that is what I got out of this, nothing anti-semetic, just frustration at people who should know better because of experience and historical understanding.
Trent, you are correct, which is why I referred to it as "a mess of his inartful making."
Expressing those sentiments the way he did gave the enemy plenty to exploit. It's in all our interests to do what we can to let people know exactly what you did on Facebook.
