A Creative New Argument

Appropriating Truman Capote?
It’s a creative new argument, and also one that’s very wrong. [More]
What, the one that was included by the Founders in the Bill of Rights?

Your argument is very wrong, SE Smith. But it's hardly new or creative.

Totalitarians have been using it for years. Along with the evil lie that rights are bestowed by governments, and are what the rulers -- or stupid subversives -- say they are.

SE Smith fits the classic definition of 'busybody'. And that's putting it kindly.

I would think his time would be better spent concerning himself with the Islamic takeover of Londonistan, or some such thing.

"Her."

And even though this was a UK paper, she (zie?) lives in CA.

Assume, purely for the sake of argument, that this asshat is correct and Keeping and Bearing Arms is NOT, in fact, a human right. OK, now what? Millions of Americans own many millions of firearms. The mere fact that the annointed in Mordor on the Potomac issue an edict obanning private ownership of firearms does not mean that all the firearms in the U.S. will somehow magically disappear from the hands of all those currently law-abiding citizens who presently LAWFULLY own them. Somehow, people who desire others to be disarmed forget that compliance - ALL COMPLIANCE is voluntary. All governments - I say again ALL GOVERNMENTS - derive their power (sorry President Jefferson) - just or otherwise - from the consent of the governed. Let me state that again; ALL GOVERNMENTS DERIVE THEIR POWER FROM THE CONSENT OF THE GOVERNED! The elites forget that the ratio of "indians" (i.e. those being governed) to "chiefs" (those who would assay to govern their fellows) always favors the "indians". ALWAYS! No government is sacrosanct. Kings and emperors have been deposed many times in history. Dictators have been assassinated or been victim of a coup.

Contrary to Mr Lincoln, one NEVER has to fool ALL the people ANY of the time. To hold power, one merely needs to fool ENOUGH of the people ENOUGH of the time. But if ENOUGH of the people wake up and see how their would be "masters" are abusing them, those "masters" can and should be deposed. President Jefferson put it very simply. When those who would rule their fellows get "too big for their britches", those being ruled have both a RIGHT and a DUTY to throw the bastards out!
