Here's the big problem I see with background checks for ammo. There are a lot of people with guns not registered in California, for good reason: we do not trust them at all. Sacrademento said "register your 'assault weapons'. We won't take them." A year later, they said "Turn 'em in." These ammo checks will alert the state as to caliber, and if someone's really got a bur under his saddle, he'll check the ammo bought against the registration list to see if the buyer has a gun registered in that caliber. If he finds none so listed, the buyer's ass is grass, and Sacrademento will be the lawn mower.
Did I miss something, or did the Chief in the City of Ventura whine just a bit about not getting an exemption for the only ones?
