And I'll bet it will cost a mint to get the guns outta hock with the Police, too. You get to pay a lawyer to represent you. Probably a pshrink to testify that you are no danger to yourself or others. Then so much a day "storage fee" for the item THEY stole, erm "CONFISCATED" from some poor schmuck who committed no crime.
In San Antonio it's around $25 dollars/day - from the time the weapon is "impounded" until you can make an appointment to recover your own property. That usually takes over a week. I got on a FLEA's bad side and wound up spending from Wednesday noon until Friday evening as a guest of the county (all charges dropped first time my lawyer told them to go to court or drop the charges) during which time I was a "smocker" (asshole FLEA convinced 'em I was a suicide risk) and I didn't get to see the court pshrink till Friday noon. By the time the wife made bail and the got around to letting me go it was damned near 2300. I spent Monday trying to find out how to get my gun back. Tuesday I finally got through and got an "appointment" to retrieve my own gun on Wednesday. The "storage fee" was $200 - $25/day for 8 days (Wed through Wed). When I got home the front flip up lens cap on the scope was busted. Apparently, somebody had been looking at it. Do the math for as little as $10/day for a year. $3,650! Even at a "modest" $5.00/daythat's over $1,800.
