Sure David. Right away you have to look at the negatives. Has anyone anywhere ever used a self-driving car as an IED delivery device? No.
Not yet anyway...
If someone is injured in a collision with a self-driving car, who pays the bill? The ostensible driver was merely a passenger. Is the owner liable. The manufacturer? If it is due to a software glitch, is the head of the programming team liable? All of the above? None? Who?
Makes me glad I live in Texas 'cause it's a long way to Michigan from here.
Driverless VBIED, but they don't seem to have a problem recruiting drivers. As 9/11 demonstrated, they can even get pilots.
@Bad Cyborg - the 'registered' owner may be some human, but the LEGAL owner is the State. That corporation has the actual 'Title' (the Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin), if it still exists. I've heard they no longer keep a physical Certificate but microfilm it and destroy it, transferring Title from State to State when the registered owner sells or takes it across state lines (changing 'residence'). Either way, the real owner is a State corporation. People should be able to sue them for allowing a software glitch-ridden 'vehicle' on a road with humans.
