If you're in the area...

Mike spoke there two years ago. If you haven't seen it, do so now or carve out some time later:
Every once in a while, I'm reminded that I miss the guy. I miss reading Sipsey Street Irregulars. I miss our regular phone conversations. I miss working with him on projects.
We lost a good one.

No question there, David. Hoisting one soon, to Absent Companians....
I especially miss him as a teacher of history. He probably didn't consider himself to be that, he was probably just writing about what he loved. But he sure taught me a lot about the roots of the Constitution.
Now that he's gone I seize any opportunity to learn more about the people who created the greatest nation in the history of mankind.
Thank you, Mike.
Still do not understand why Mike's son decided to kill the Sipsey Street Irregulars website. The book ABSOLVED also died. I was planning on buying a couple dozen of them to pass out for Christmas Presents. I guess Matt didn't want my money.
I do know why, and told readers at the time. Unless you have a special claim or need to know, the rest, as I said at the time, is personal. Being curious doesn't cut it.
"Absolved" was never finished because Mike had stuff on his mind, like dying of cancer, and being on powerful medicine to cope with the pain that hampered his ability to think, focus and write.
It's not a matter of Matt "not wanting your money." Why that presumption?
There was a thumb drive supposedly containing the last rev that Mike's widow cannot find. Until such time as she does, if ever, I have removed all online chapters and offsite chapter links from this blog so as not to devalue things for her in the future. All those who claim to be grateful to Mike ought to respect that and want what's best for her. My guess is, barring something totally unforeseen, it may be a matter for historians to reconstruct -- assuming the right side "wins." She doesn't have the time nor the wherewithal to self-publish, publicize and administer sales, so barring a publisher who does stepping forward to handle all of it, that's just the way things are.
Sorry you feel disappointed -- imagine how they feel.
