Gosh, it's almost like who we're being told to hate and who we're being told not to hate is being manipulated for hidden purposes. But why would anyone do such a thing...?

I think odds are 50/50 that leftists are either willfully ignorant or really are stupid when it comes to stuff like this. It's common sense to think this is going on throughout the country. But blind adherence to diversity and multiculturalism clearly interferes with logic and reason.
To expand on your point. If our betters know full well what is going on but are diverting attention to more politically correct haters, what do they think is going to happen? Do they think they can control the monster? Especially since practically everything they hold dear is despised by the monster they're protecting.
They have this notion that Islam as they think it is practiced in the west is the true Islam. They ignore the brutality the goes on in countries ruled by it.
I guess they're hoping for good treatment, or to be killed last.
