We're the Only Ones Job-Related Enough

The former Punta Gorda police officer who shot and killed a retired librarian during a training exercise last August is suing his department’s pension board for refusing to grant him a disability pension for post-traumatic stress he claims to suffer as a result of the killing. [More]
We've talked about this shameless, incompetent parasite before. It looks to me like he's also going for sympathy in his pending manslaughter trial.

When I was a kid, I learned an old joke about a boy who killed his parents and then begged the court for mercy because he was an orphan.

How, in America, did self-evident absurdities become deserving of serious consideration? Back then, this was the kind of argument that would get you an immediate backhand from anybody within reach.
