I've gotten several solicitation emails from "gun rights groups" decrying Dick's latest noisemaking. Every one of them missed the key point: Dick's is calling on lawmakers to pass new edicts.
It's not just a matter of it being "their business decision." They are actively the enemy trying to get the government to disarm me, you, our Posterity...
From the company “media statement”:
If the object is to urge members to boycott, don't just tell half the story, and the weak half at that.

Talk about missing the point...consider if you will...Is Dick's action NOT to sell to anyone less than 21 yo a civil rights violation based on age discrimination? Since Federal law decrees something otherwise?? Read...baker and his refusal to bake a cake againist his viewoint on the matter?
"...We deeply believe that this country's most precious gift is our children. They are our future. We must keep them safe."
I bet Edward Stack donates to Planned Parenthood.
You talkin' to me, anon 1? You think I'm missing a point? As far as I know, I was one of the first to publicly ask that question, both here and in an article, and then followed up with a link to Volokh's analysis. A few times now.
Dicks Sporting Goods made their grand gesture by saying they would not sell AR-15s in their stores, but what they failed to mention was it only affected 26 Field and Stream stores. Dicks stores didn't sell the AR-15s before. Kroger made their grand gesture by saying they were raising the age for purchasing guns and ammo to 21 in their (3,900) stores, but what they failed to mention is that it only affected 43 Fred Meyer superstores. How many people did those two chains just piss off for no real consequence?
But Dick's didn't "fail to mention" that. From their media statement:
"We will no longer sell assault-style rifles, also referred to as modern sporting rifles. We had already removed them from all DICK’S stores after the Sandy Hook massacre, but we will now remove them from sale at all 35 Field & Stream stores."
Likewise, Kroger's statement said:
"Recent events demonstrate the need for additional action on the part of responsible gun retailers. We are raising the minimum age to 21 to purchase firearms and ammunition in all of our Fred Meyer locations that sell firearms. We stopped selling assault-style rifles in our Oregon, Washington and Idaho Fred Meyer stores several years ago and we will no longer accept any special-orders of these weapons in Alaska.
