That’s why, like many other military veterans, I view America’s civilian gun culture as dysfunctional. [More]And there are plenty of others who wonder what the hell you thought you were swearing an oath to, and what the fixation with "Only Ones" being more trustworthy than everyone else is about.
It's telling to see this filed under "Think" in light of the truism that for "progressives," every day is Opposite Day.

Thats because the Military is the ultimate nanny state.
One of the most repeated statements by soldiers sailors & marines during the Vietnam era was "Military Intelligence is an contradiction in terms". Also, how did the military policy of banning privately owned firearms on base work out at Ft. Hood. The carnage didn't stop until the "authorized" showed up at the scene with loaded pistols drawn. Also, he's obviously an Everytown supporter by citing the BS implying that it is easy to legally acquire a firearm without a background check.
Non-combat accidents and Military Intelligence Officers have killed more service men & women since 1968 than any other cause. One would think seven years in [even the] Army Reserve would have taught him to research the topic before spewing such ignorance. But then again, refer to my first sentence.
