Kavanaugh a Mixed Bag on Guns

At least Kavanaugh admits that even though he might personally support some “gun control” goals and laws, “our task is to apply the Constitution and the precedents of the Supreme Court, regardless of whether the result is one we agree with as a matter of first principles or policy.” [More]
Of course he's not perfect. But I'd still look for the Democrats to paint him as a "militia extremist" and do their utmost to destroy him.

David,

Excellent AL article -- well worth the wait.

In light of what you've written, what do you think of the analysis of Daniel John Sobieski?

Valid points but he addresses no areas of caution. That's not what he's going for here, so I can't really say it's incomplete, but I will observe that too many, especially the "gun rights groups," are doing nothing but singing praises. We need to be able to candidly look at pros and cons and kick the tires so we're not in self-denial about rallying behind a savior.

I appreciate your healthy skepticism.

Judging by the hoopla pervading the media too few have any concept how SCOTUS works. Mr. Kavenaugh is one of a long slate of excellent candidates the President has to choose from . I particularly like Kavenaugh's originalist perspective consistently expressed in his huge portfolio of decisions and articles . That said, a great deal about how any Justice renders their opinion is based upon the arguments placed before them.
