We're the Only Ones Judging by the Content of Their Character Enough

IBM collaborated with the NYPD on an AI system that can search for people by race [More]
Isn't that what prevailing sentiment would deem racist?  Fear not:
...officers were instructed to exclude skin tone from searches.
That's "progressive" and political!

I guess withholding a complete description is somehow in the interests of public safety?

Kind of like what the media does as standard industry practice?

I’m sure every one of us has heard true stories of “they arrested the wrong guy,” where the punch line is that the stupid cops apparently failed to realize that a senior citizen wasn’t an athletic teen shoplifter, or an Amish grandmother wasn’t a Muslim terrorist… or a black man wasn’t a white mugger.

These days, I suppose the appropriate response to the third case would be, “how were we supposed to know?”

So:

1) IBM charged the NYPD a lot of money to develop an AI system that can search by race (which is largely characterized by skin tone).
2) NYPD officers are to exclude skin tone from searches.

WTF???????
