A circuit judge has given a boost to ... local governments challenging any state law that mandates gun restrictions.

If "home rule" can be used to override state preemption and enact harsher restrictions than allowed by state law, then it can also be used to render harsh state laws impotent and unenforceable.

That door swings both ways.
