Speaking of an Unpalatable Alternative

This is the problem with our politics today. Both sides have decided that the way to win is no longer to persuade those in the middle, but rather to throw red meat to their hardcore supporters and get them more worked up than those on the other side. Lost in the shuffle are millions of reasonable, persuadable citizens who are left to choose between two unpalatable alternatives. [*]
And this is a problem with "moderates" today: They either naively or fraudulently attribute moral equivalence to evil ideas, with proponents eager to accept any inroad from which to launch their next assault, and to principled ideas, for which no "compromise" is possible without surrendering freedom.

Blessings of Liberty are not secured by the Marc Theissens of the world. Here's what he would have us persuaded to believe "reasonable":

If allowed, Schultz will impose on the Republic the same immigration policy Reagan destroyed California with, and ban semi-autos.

Nonetheless, I do hope the guy runs third party for the obvious reason.

"Persuasion" is a dead letter when one side owns all the media and gets to lie continuously with impunity to the "moderates" without fear of contradiction by the censored other side.

As the late Sam Rayburn said long ago, "the only thing you find in the middle of the road are yellow streaks and dead possums".
