David, what a horror. I suspect Islam, but we do have to wait for the facts on the burning down of Notre Dame in Paris, still I heard that Macron insisted that they be half immigrant on the work crews. It's amazing what a little incompetence can do. We shall wait, and we shall see. We do not rush to judgement, at least not here in the West. Still, we are behind with this:

Ironically, the church I was married in burned down in 1985 due to roof restoration in almost precisely the same circumstances.
Its name? Notre Dame (Fall River, MA).
Same thing happened to the dome on old Iowa Capitol Building in Iowa City, carelessness by a contractor's employee during renovation. In that case the building was saved because an earlier renovation had put a firewall floor directly below the dome, confining the fire to the dome. The dome was completely restored later.
In PC west Europe, if it was an act of terror as many of us believe, this information will be suppressed. I think that if the French public learned it was a Islamist plot, there would be civil war - or maybe not, as west Europeans are now, with few exceptions, so indoctrinated and turned into eunuchs.
