Every now and then, the subject of body armor for 1st Responders comes up in my fire department. As a Captain, my response is always the same...WE WAIT FOR THE COPS! If you want me to go into a situation that is dangerous enough for me to be wearing body armor, I WILL ALSO HAVE A WEAPON. Otherwise, I wait for LEO to clear the area and call me in.
And these guns that they are forbidden to have during their “normal, everyday duties” will just magically materialize in their vehicles when the radio call goes out for one of these critical emergencies. Just another aspect of all that new “Smart Gun” technology, I’m sure.
