Like what, praytell? Pass a law making it illegal to steal a gun from a cop's holster and shoot him with it? Close the "shoot a cop in the face and steal his gun" loophole? Because I'm pretty sure that's already illegal.
Besides which, the cop was shot with his own gun, which he was carrying while on duty. The only legislative preventative I can see for this would be mandating officers carry "smart guns", and this situation is exactly what the original developers of the technology had in mind.
But "smart guns" are a non-starter for police. So obviously the solution is to mandate such garbage on you and me.
