This reminds me of the old urban myth of the cute girl in the bar who slips a sedative into your drink. You wake up hours later in a bathtub filled with ice, a phone next to the tub, and a note explaining that your kidney has been removed and to call 911. Haven't heard that one in a while...
As for the Invasion of the Body Snatchers being a metaphor for Cold War fears of Communists among us...from what I observe of our political scene...it was true.
