Wake Me when It's Time to Care

The city of Berkeley is moving forward with a first-of-its kind proposal to replace police with unarmed civilians during traffic stops in an effort to curb racial profiling. [More]
I wouldn't mind seeing Berkeley do that with the entire department.

And sorry, to those of you throwing a flag on "civilian." Somewhere along the line, the word became more inclusive.

So....

Let's take a little poll.

How many of these "unarmed civilians" will get shot, some perhaps killed, before:

A. The city agrees that this was a really, really bad idea

or

B. They run out of people fool enough to volunteer to take the job.

I would like to suggest they take a different tack. Do like the police here in Miami-Dade County do. Just pretend that the traffic laws don't exist and stop enforcing them in any way shape or form.
