My first reaction would have been to loudly tell everyone within earshot this wasn't the real Santa but a fake.

I'd have fired him. A Mall Santa has one job: To get the kids to tell their wishes and encourage the parents to buy presents from that establishment, usually at a profitable mark-up.
He didn't do that. Instead, he discouraged the sale, and the mom no doubt went elsewhere. "Woke" or not, that is unacceptable conduct for a man paid to sell the store's stuff.
Word is, after the video went viral, he has since resigned, and some Good Samaritans -- including a different Santa -- brought a nice Nerf set to the boy's door. Happy ending, but it never should have happened to begin with.
