We're the Only Ones Assuming Enough

Assault suspect believed to be armed with knife fatally shot by police ...  they found the suspect struggling with a female inside a vehicle. That’s when at least one of the officers opened fire ... At this point, it was still unclear if the suspect actually had a knife ... [More]

So they didn't know if she was telling the truth and who the aggressor was before they made the decision to kill him, and if it turns out they made the right call it will just be due to "luck"? And they need a warrant to investigate a homicide scene?

I could grant this. They had two claims that the man was the aggressor (somebody else called him in), and if the car belongs to the victim instead of the criminal, they might possibly need a warrant to violate her private space.
