Somehow this does not seem to be a 'victory'.
Those of us who used to follow NFL play (pre Colin Kaepernick) might recognize elements of both a "trap block" and a "screen pass" in this play by California's government.
"Assault weapon" owners will get yet another chance to register that which should not be registered in the first place.
Then the government will get to say they bent over backwards in an effort to get those pesky gun owners to do the right thing.
But registering guns will never be the right thing.
Randy Rossi: Retired in 2007, his 2020 CalPERS pension paid him $113,210.
Luis Lopez: 2019 combined pay of $146,098.
The lesson here is that being the Professional Face of Evil pays well in California and comes with great benefits.
And I'm sure these men are classified as law enforcement, which means they are not subjected to the same gun laws as the little people they rule over.
