History tells us that Stalin's USSR was in the throws of purging its officer corps of those deemed politically unreliable when Hitler launched "Operation Barbarosa" and cleaned their clocks.... At least for a while.
The thinning of our military began in the Clinton years, was continued under Obama, and now under Biden.
Did the purge have any influence on the recent Afghanistan debacle? History may well tell us, depending on who gets to write it.
