Half Empty or Half Full?

“We are truly gratified that the top law enforcement officers in fully half of the states in our country have signed onto this amicus brief” ... [More]

Meaning if they choose not to accept it, the court will be telling fully half of the country their concerns will not be heard. If they hear it and rule against it, they'll be telling fully half the country to surrender, submit and obey.

That was the reason NRA gave us years ago when asked why they weren't pressing for a Second Amendment case: What if we lose?

We won't be able to decide a morally justifiable course of action until we know where we stand.

"... it is long past time for the court to more fully define the parameters of our right to keep and bear arms ..."

Once upon a time, and not all that long ago, such a statement would have been ludicrous because those parameters were understood and unquestioned.

I mean "shall not be infringed" is pretty clear unless you're trying to bend the English language to suit an agenda.

"... on every question of construction, carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates, and instead of trying what meaning may be squeezed out of the text, or invented against it, conform to the probable one in which it was past." -- Thomas Jefferson.
