Compromise carried to an extreme would have made it OK for Adolf Hitler to conquer half of Europe and kill 3 million Jews and 10 million Gypsies, Slavs, and other varieties of "untermenchen."
In the current context it would allow Vladimir Putin to take half of Ukraine back behind a reconstituted iron Curtain.
That's why you don't compromise with evil.
