Above the Fray

NRA Admits Not Fighting Gun Control [Watch]

I asked about this here.

Here's how they explain it.

As typical, the Lairds of Fairfax sit on the hill making their own treaties with Longshanks while the fight goes on below.

We Get a Bump in the Media

Machine Gun Law, ATF Rule at Center of Suits Over Bump Stock Ban [More]

Ours gets some of the ink in this piece from Bloomberg. On the whole, it has the appearance of balance, but leading off with the arguments by the grabbers buries ours after the initial impression has been made.

You know who ought to file a brief and apologize, say this was never his intent and ATF perverted his orders? The 3D Chessmaster who promised he'd be on our side and then got us into this intolerable mess after a wholly uncalled-for green light from the Lairds of Fairfax.

Except he can't. What a pal.

NRAWOL

“Where’s the NRA?” Michelle Malkin Fights For Innocent Man’s Freedom After Soros D.A.’s Tomfoolery [More]
Sorry -- the Lairds of Fairfax watch the battle from atop the hill while they make deals with Longshanks, and besides, they need their money for something else.

A Tactical Retreat

The city, fearing a loss that would endanger gun control laws across the nation, responded by moving to change the regulation. The idea was to make the case moot. [More]
Who do these guys think they are? Lairds of Fairfax?

Confidence Man

And join the Wine Club while you're at it!

Wayne LaPierre expensed $39,000 in clothes in one day, $18,300 for car and driver, ad agency says; NRA says board has ‘full confidence’ in him [More]
This is behind a paywall, and you can get the gist of the story from other sources (TTAG has the docs and relevant analysis), but there are a couple specifics in the WSJ article I think need to be highlighted and addressed:
The NRA released a statement from Carolyn Meadows, its new president, who said the “entire board is fully aware of these issues.
As a 25+ year life member, I've already asked who the hell this person is and noted she was appointed based on wagon-circler/swamp connections rather than any remarkable proven fidelity or achievements as a defender of RKBA. And per my NRA board member source, someone I have known for many years:
Even though President Meadows is quoted as saying "the entire Board is aware of these issues," well, this is one Board member that is not.
And then there's this:
As for the summer intern, Ackerman wrote that Mr. LaPierre “required we rent” her an apartment and requested that Mr. LaPierre provide details about his business relationship to the young woman.
Uh, yeah, details, please.

Who needs Cuomo when you have The Lairds of Fairfax? Although he will no doubt viciously drive his forces through the opening they have given him.

Also, WarOnGuns Correspondent Felix B sends a comprehensive document link.

What a self-created mess. And no, I don't expect any changes that are not forced, and won't be surprised to see Trump start distancing himself.

NRA SOP

Georgia Republicans Say NRA Told Them to Vote in Favor of Bloomberg Gun Ban [More]
What did we just see?

While the rest of us are down here in the field, the Lairds of Fairfax, looking down from the hilltop, are cutting their own deals with Longshanks.

That's Some Industrial-Grade Weasel-Wording Right There

"Nobody wants dangerous people to have access to firearms, which is why the NRA supports risk protection orders with adequate due process protections and ensure those adjudicated to be dangerously mentally ill receive treatment," Jennifer Baker, a spokesperson for the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action, said. "The NRA believes that any effort should be structured to fully protect the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens while preventing truly dangerous individuals from accessing firearms. We will only support an [Emergency Risk Protection Order] process that strongly protects both Second Amendment rights and due process rights at the same time." [More]
I guess if you repeat the phrase "due process" enough times, people will tend to overlook that those who haven't been charged, let alone convicted of a crime, will have a fundamental right forcibly stripped from them -- all while a fundamental truth goes ignored.

There goes your "New gun control doesn't work" excuse, Fairfax.  I guess the "Lairds Approved" kind does...?

The Unendorsed

A week after Election Day, Governor Jeff Colyer officially conceded to Secretary of State Kris Kobach after provisional ballot results in the more populous counties showed Kobach’s narrow lead growing. [More]
Despite the Lairds of Fairfax trying to torpedo the guy.

After their pick had sold their members out.

And right alongside the anti-gun Kansas City Star...

The Silence of the Lairds

A Shaky Assumption

The gun lobby is nervous [More]
If you mean the Lairds of Fairfax, I can see why the totalitarian lobby feels that way.

If you mean those of us who will not disarm, the fact that your side dares not try the end move tells a different story.

Now Everybody Read from This Page

NRA needs to spend more time getting out there among the people, and most importantly educating them, and offering the tools they need to be successful. [More]
The question becomes "Successful at what?" The Fairfax agenda will brook no dissent.

Sorry, but I won't be attending any meetings where the agenda is to help push for bump stock bans, erosions of due process and prior restraints. Ditto for throwing political support behind obvious lying squishes and frauds.

Back when I was an officer with the Westside Los Angeles NRA Members Council, NRA's state "grassroots coordinator"  (read "lackey for the Lairds") tried to shut down a meeting where we were calling Sacramento to urge proper action on a bill. I had to stand up and defy him, and tell him he did not have authority to dismiss us.  This was the same character who caused me to write a letter to then-ILA head James Baker because he was discouraging other gun groups from supporting our effort to petition John Ashcroft to enforce the Second Amendment by libeling us as "wild-eyed extremists." Hell, he was trying to strangle it in its crib. And when I stood down from being nominated for president, and instead endorsed someone who I believed could be more successful due to better name recognition, this was the same lickspittle wormtongue who threatened to sue the new president if he organized a public demonstration using the NRA name (which is the reason why a few years earlier I had opposed becoming a Members' Council and wanted to leave things at "affiliated club.")

NRA will always be fake grassroots because Wayne and Chris demand total control, something more than apparent by the way they make sure the Board will always be comprised of rubber stamps.

If you want to organize, do it locally with those of like mind and purpose. You're going to need to learn who you can count on anyway in your AO. Don't turn your back on opportunities to join in coalitions, but only if your goals are the same and never at the cost of losing your autonomy.

If Not Us, Who?

CONSERVATIVES MUST DEFEND THE SECOND AMENDMENT [More]
Thank you Captain Obvious. Still, all in all it's a pretty good statement and worthy of being shared.

My main concern is the claim at the end that "enforcing existing laws as they relate to addressing troubled individuals might have prevented the Parkland tragedy, and can likely prevent others." If such individuals are known and proven to be dangers to others after being afforded full due process, allowing them to stalk freely among us is irresponsibly dangerous.

I'm always suspicious of efforts like this because too often they've turned out to be fronts for the RNC, giving the rubes the rah-rah they want to hear and then including backstabbing RINOs in divvying up the take. If that's the case here, I don't see it.

And I also see they recognize the dangers of "amnesty," unlike the Lairds of Fairfax.

Speaking of which, I notice no one from NRA signed on to this. Why the hell not?

If I had to bet, I'd say the conclusion that "teachers who want to be trained to possess firearms in the classroom should be given the support to do so" scared Wayne and Chris away.

And Another One Bites the Dust

“Lockton Affinity has notified the NRA that it will discontinue providing brokerage services for NRA-endorsed insurance programs under the terms of its contract,” Lockton said in a tweet. [More]
In a way, there's a certain schadenfreude to all this.

Maybe it's time to get back to core mission?  Except for the Lairds of Fairfax, that typically means secretly treating with Longshanks and leaving the patriots to bleed out on the field...

What are They Waiting For?

NRA Hasn’t Rated Pro-Gun Roy Moore vs Pro-Gun Control Doug Jones [More]
That's because the Lairds of Fairfax prefer to sit atop the hill watching others take the risks while they treat in secret with Longshanks.

What? The accusation controversy has nothing to do with that "single issue"?  Hey, this is the "pragmatic" thing to do!

Besides, there'll be time enough to take credit if the man is vindicated.

A-Rated Lindsey Graham

“I think most Americans want to get these DREAM Act kids a more certain life. Let’s do it in December, let’s do it for the good of the country, let’s take care of a lot of problems at one time to show the country we actually can function,” Graham said on CNN’s “State of the Union." Graham and Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) earlier this year revived discussion around the DREAM Act, which would offer a path to citizenship to young immigrants brought to the country illegally as children. [More]
Neither one will address these concerns. Nor will any of their apologists.

Good thing for us this has nothing to do with that "single issue."  Otherwise, the Lairds of Fairfax would never be able go get away with this.

Urge President Trump to Oppose All Backdoor Gun Control

Click on the Take Action button to urge President Donald Trump to prevent the ATF from using the Las Vegas shooting to impose new gun control restrictions.  [More]
It's fast, easy and painless.

Don't let Lairds of Fairfax appeasement dominate the discussion here. Let him know gun owners aren't all parrots for Wayne and Chris.

About That 'Single Issue'

She links to one of my July pieces.

Let the unsubstantiated smartassery begin:

And no, he doesn't refute a single point because he can't.  But he does know quite a bit about making absolutely no sense.  Especially here, where he appears to be taking the same effective position as the Lairds of Fairfax.

Another 'Pro-Gun Democrat'

Rep. Tim Ryan is giving the campaign money — $20,000 in all — he’s received from the National Rifle Association to gun control groups. The Niles Democrat, who began his career in Congress with an “A” rating from the NRA, decided to donate his NRA money to Sandy Hook Promise, Americans for Responsible Solutions and Everytown for Gun Safety. [More]
How many times does this have to happen before Lairds of Fairfax loyalists admit to themselves the Vulcan chessmaster is playing checkers -- badly?

Speaking of the Feedback Loop of Crazy

In other words, Moore is exactly the kind of fringe candidate that caused the Republicans to fail to win the Senate back in 2010 and 2012 after running kooks like Todd "legitimate rape" Akin  and Sharron "Second Amendment remedies" Angle. [More]
The first was a case of media apparatchiks seizing on and defining him from a gaffe, like can't all say something in a way that can be misconstrued, and the second, well, let's just say I don't think her loss was attributable to that. Right, Lairds of Fairfax...?

Besides, it's not like Digby and Salon haven't said plenty of crazy premeditated sh!+ over the years.
