Anti-Gun Deception On The Senate Floor

Did we mention that our opponents are deliberately deceptive?

What--you mean they'll still give an A-rating to someone who votes for Eric Holder?

I want you to take a few minutes and read what NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris Cox has to say about Holder, naturally under the "Vote Freedom First" header. Among other things:

...Holder's history of aggressive anti-gun activism is even worse than Emanuel's record of media-focused PR stunts.

Holder has always been among the first in front of the cameras to exploit tragedy for political gain. From Columbine to the September 11 attacks, there was no event in which Holder couldn't find some inspiration for gun bans, gun registration, gun rationing and more. Just weeks after terrorists used box cutters to turn airplanes into guided missiles, Holder wrote in the Washington Post, "One measure that is an essential part of any plan is the need to tighten our nation's gun laws, which allow the easy and legal sale of firearms to terrorists and criminals."

Holder claimed, mistakenly, "No court has ever said that the Second Amendment actually says that. I think, if you look at it, it talks about bearing guns in a well-regulated militia. And I don't think anywhere it talks about an individual." Holder most recently signed a brief...in the Heller case that "The Second Amendment does not protect firearm possession or use that is unrelated to participation in a well-regulated militia."

But if senators don't "Vote Freedom First," well, anybody who has a problem with that just doesn't understand how politics works.

And forget talking filibuster. With the betrayal by all those A-rated republicans on the Judiciary Committee, we're told we just don't have the numbers. And why did they feel comfortable with betrayal again? Where was the NRA-ILA Alert leading a concerted effort to oppose Holder from Day One, to write, call and email senators, to publicly, loudly and repeatedly make it known that "Vote Tyranny First" would not be cost-free?

Right. After what Cox just told us, we're supposed to turn around and accept that this is just not important enough to expend political capital on? Besides, activist gun owners would be so worn out from making a few phone calls and sending a few letters that they'd just be totally spent when AWB2 comes around. What, you think we can walk now and chew gun six months later?

Which I guess means a vote for cloture if someone does strap 'em on to filibuster won't be held against them, either. Or against any of those A-rated and endorsed "pro-gun" democrats:

If the assumption is "all the current Democratic senators," what can we expect from our new shining "pro-gun Democrat" star? Or we might ask where our "true champion of Second Amendment freedoms" Max Baucus stands...or Tim Johnson...or...

There is one point where I agree with the Lairds of Fairfax. There is anti-gun deception on the Senate floor. And it is deliberate.

As for breaking news, some of us have been reporting on this for over a week.

One other observation: I still see excuse-making for the Lairds of Fairfax being presented in some corners, but see absolutely none of the apologists addressing my contention that a key stated reason they expressed concern was because they think Holder hasn't been supportive enough of federal infringements.

I'd like to see one of them make their case and defend that--and not forget to show us what wonders have been worked in Richmond and Philadelphia, as Chris Cox is so proud to credit his favorite gun control program with.

The Surge

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the agency charged with approving the applications, expects more than 800,000 applications in just the first two and a half months, or a 70 percent surge compared to last year’s total intake for the entire agency. And Jeh Johnson says every one of them has "earned the right to be citizens."

And all credible polling shows them to overwhelmingly identify with Democrats and support "gun control."

Meaning every legislative gain will be knocked back, and judicial confirmations will be putting robed activists on the benches of district and appeals courts and higher.

Yeah, this has nothing to do with that "single issue."

Any gun rights group or "leader" with a voice not warning against this and doing what can be done to alert followers and mobilize opposition is not leading. Anyone dismissing it is a demonstrable liar, and I'll tell you how you can prove that for yourself: Have them produce credible data -- not just their wishful thinking or opinions -- to refute this.

A key to creating grassroots pressure to force the big gun groups to lead on this is the tone being set on so-called "gun blogs" and forums. Note how silent most have been. They won't have the data, either.

All the huffing and puffing over "extremist" open carriers "making us all look bad" they're focused on notwithstanding, there is no more significant threat to the right to keep and bear arms than this business of amnesty combined with promiscuous "legal" immigration that gives all advantages to helping foreign ideologies grow. Meanwhile, mighty NRA refuses to buck the Grover Norquist RINOs --hell, the Nominating Committee even recommended him for director again, and that's AFTER he helped an award-winning gun-grabber gain power -- because that provides the Lairds of Fairfax more of what they immediately crave -- access to the people they value more than a cynically-manipulated mass-membership.

They set this crap up and then deride those who are taking what is theirs back without waiting for anyone's permission.

You think the surge is scary, just wait 'til the shock and awe part. I have a feeling some are going to be wishing there were a few more "extremists" around.

Particularly when one of their big complaints is he doesn't support enforcing existing federal gun laws enough?

Here all this time we've been saying gun control doesn't work, even citing stuff like

Good grief. I'd just as soon they'd have stayed out of it.

Speaking of the Feedback Loop of Crazy

In other words, Moore is exactly the kind of fringe candidate that caused the Republicans to fail to win the Senate back in 2010 and 2012 after running kooks like Todd "legitimate rape" Akin  and Sharron "Second Amendment remedies" Angle. [More]

The first was a case of media apparatchiks seizing on and defining him from a gaffe, like can't all say something in a way that can be misconstrued, and the second, well, let's just say I don't think her loss was attributable to that. Right, Lairds of Fairfax...?

Thank you Captain Obvious. Still, all in all it's a pretty good statement and worthy of being shared.

My main concern is the claim at the end that "enforcing existing laws as they relate to addressing troubled individuals might have prevented the Parkland tragedy, and can likely prevent others." If such individuals are known and proven to be dangers to others after being afforded full due process, allowing them to stalk freely among us is irresponsibly dangerous.

I'm always suspicious of efforts like this because too often they've turned out to be fronts for the RNC, giving the rubes the rah-rah they want to hear and then including backstabbing RINOs in divvying up the take. If that's the case here, I don't see it.

And I also see they recognize the dangers of "amnesty," unlike the Lairds of Fairfax.

Speaking of which, I notice no one from NRA signed on to this. Why the hell not?

If I had to bet, I'd say the conclusion that "teachers who want to be trained to possess firearms in the classroom should be given the support to do so" scared Wayne and Chris away.

As a 25+ year life member, I've already asked who the hell this person is and noted she was appointed based on wagon-circler/swamp connections rather than any remarkable proven fidelity or achievements as a defender of RKBA. And per my NRA board member source, someone I have known for many years:

Even though President Meadows is quoted as saying "the entire Board is aware of these issues," well, this is one Board member that is not.
