There are "Authorized Journalists" and then there are "Really Authorized Journalists."

That said, how do they pull it off or do they just target dopes?  Whenever I'm contacted by a reporter, the first thing I do is check their online work and social media accounts to see if I can detect ignorance/bias and if it's worth my time to talk with them. So do they have a body of work out there to establish their beat cred?

That leaves open the possibility that they are also out there injecting an agenda into the public discourse under cover of being undercover.  Sure be nice to out one and find out they're also covering for Hillary, or for crimes like Fast and Furious.

Still, I don't know what AP is so upset about -- doesn't that stand for "Agents Provocateur"?

"Authorized Journalists"

Still, government authorized journalism is only half the equation — we also need to look at what the anointed media do with their elite status. Meaning how they slant supposedly straight news stories to fit their anti-gun agenda. And ignore other stories altogether.

WarOnGuns regulars are familiar with "Authorized Journalists." That's also the title of my Feb. 2009 Rights Watch column for GUNS Magazine.

Another One Bites the Dust

In addition to the first article,* another article was just "unpublished" by the "gatekeepers" at Examiner.com. Here is the excuse they used:

The thing is, this person is making that up as a phony excuse to suppress this article-- I never submitted this article by claiming "newsworthy" status, but merely submitted it as a subjective column, which they publish all the time. See? The box wasn't checked and they know it.

The unexplained removal of an article relevant to readers of this column prevents not only them from seeing it, but also journalists subscribing to the EIN News service, effectively suppressing the information from the public.

“Embattled Hastert was no friend to gun owners despite ‘A’ rating,” one of the linked headlines in the Saturday EIN Newsdesk alert informed subscribers. The service, maintained by professional editors, provides subject-customized news monitoring and distribution “for journalists and other professionals world-wide who are deeply involved in very specific topics. Our vertical niche publications reach industry leaders and decision makers...”

The problem is, any journalists, industry leaders and decision makers clicking on the link will get an “Uh-oh” 404 message (“Not Found”). That’s because, for reasons not yet explained, on Friday, shortly after the article was published, the story was taken down from Examiner.com by unknown company moderators without explaining the reason behind the decision.

“This article has been unpublished by staff,” a note on the publishing/editing tool advised, something discovered purely by chance after I saw the column had disappeared from the Gun Rights Examiner home page. “Contact support with any questions.”

That was Friday, and despite multiple emails, no answer to the query has yet been received, leading to speculation why this was done in the absence of any “official” word. Whatever it was, it did not trouble the editors at EIN News, who, before it had been taken down without notice, thought the story significant enough to include in their alert to industry professionals. Maybe it’s all a mistake, or maybe there’s a technical reason -- or maybe it’s a matter of some arbitrarily-interpreted “standards” violation, except Examiner has featured one of the potential triggers in numerous headlines, not to mention actively promoted regular columns that are NSFW (by a long “shot,” if you care to risk reading the last paragraph). Since they have not responded to queries to explain why the column was pulled, all that’s left is to guess. Or perhaps all that's needed is for someone with an axe to grind to click on the "Report this content!" link accompanying all articles on this site. Pending a response, which I will make available to readers either here or at The War on Guns blog, the article has been reposted in total on that blog so that readers can see it for themselves.

In the meantime, while all the “real reporters/legitimate news media/Authorized Journalists” are repeating salacious speculations about the unfolding Dennis Hastert scandal, and generally parroting the work of others and rewriting (rewording) stories off the same sheet, none of the journalists are likely to see a dimension to discussions about the former Speaker that no one else is talking about: How he promoted ending all private sales at gun shows and denying handguns to citizens old enough to vote, marry, and enlist in the military, and how he was given an “A” rating by the National Rifle Association after doing so.

That means most news consumers, and most gun owners, for that matter, will never learn of it either. What remains to be seen is if this follow-up article will be allowed, or removed once posted. That will tell much to gun rights advocates looking for uncensored information they’re not getting anywhere else.

Gee, Michael Doyle and the Bee editors, I wonder which side of the debate you're on?

And why not just assume for your readers that declines in reported gun ownership and "gun-related crimes" are directly attributable to a decline in dealers? I'd love to see the data and methodology you used to derive that conclusion. After all, it's not like demographics, birth rates, economic conditions, and declining public trust of the media, along with dozens of other factors, would have any impact...

One thing is clear, though: BATFU, under a Republican administration that eked out the narrow margin of votes needed to win two terms due to the support of gun owners and their leaders, has been relentlessly gaining ground with very little scrutiny. This is why the ongoing story of Red's Trading Post is so vitally important--to cast a light on them they so obviously hate. It's why I keep harping on it here, and I must admit, I'm disappointed that so few others--with much more influence than I have --even give it a mention.

Note the bit about increasing inspection frequencies. BATFU learned from Waco and Ruby Ridge that spectacular media stunts can backfire--and that slow but steady wins the race, meaning budgets and authorities and personal career ambitions are rewarded--that is, the parasites have learned how to gorge on their host as much as possible without killing it. And the ignorant and/or intentionally subversive "authorized journalists" wouldn't have it any other way--except to get out there occasionally and cheer the destruction of liberty from the sidelines.

The editor of The Baltimore Examiner was arrested and charged with threatening his next-door neighbors with a shotgun, police said Thursday.

No! Not The Baltimore Examiner that editorialized:

Now, there’s a generation of young people who simply reach for the gun when they feel they’ve been slighted.

Not The Baltimore Examiner that admitted:

In 2002 the entire Dawson family — Carnell and Angela and their five children — were murdered in their city home for standing up to drug dealers in their neighborhood. And the state’s highest court ruled earlier this month that relatives could not sue the city for failing to protect the family, who placed 109 calls to 911 or 311 between Jan. 1, 2000, and Oct. 16, 2002, about illegal activity in their neighborhood.

While the crime was horrible, police must not be held criminally liable for failing to prevent murders.

"Authorized journalists" certainly have no problem advocating you and I can't be trusted with a gun. I wonder how much of that is projection--because they know they can't trust themselves?

The Police/Press Propaganda Alliance

NBC got even more hysterical, calling it a "military weapon" and a "machine pistol" and...get this..."a Mac-10 military rifle," and Officer Dave gave them the obligatory "no purpose outside the military except for killing and murdering people" spiel.

"Authorized Journalists/Real Reporters/Legitmate News Media" Defending the Stone Wall

Anyone who argues that the statement the sister of Brian Terry put out isn't news -- after Eric Holder once more stonewalled the investigation -- is simply not credible, and is carrying water for those hiding things.  Those are the people I call "Authorized Journalists/Fourth Estate Fifth Columnists." Diane Feinstein and Joe Biden respectively call them "real reporters and "legitimate news media."

Once again they are failing to inform. See for yourself: There are plenty of hits on Kelly Terry-Willis' name on a regular web search -- but a NEWS search produces only one result, and that should be an object lesson to all on shameful media complicity/sins of omission.

She sent her statement out two days ago, and being a one-man operation, I needed to wait until yesterday to make time for it. What excuse do "news" organizations, with staff and resources, have for not reacting by or even before now? As you can also see, just like with the Reese family and so many stories, if this is to get out, we can't rely on anyone but ourselves.

Will it get out?

That's out of my hands now.  It's in yours.

If Eric Holder has his way, the answer will be "No."

Authorized Journalists Won't Authorize Ad

As hundreds stand outside to get into the Roanoke Valley Gun Show, hundreds are taking a stand inside against a local newspaper.

She says earlier this week, the Roanoke Times rejected an advertisement for her show after the paper decided to stop selling ad space to shows with unlicensed dealers.

Angry AND Authorized

They're angry at their demanding editors. They're angry about the mushrooming workload in shrinking newsrooms. They're even angry about other angry journalists.

Citizen Journalists

Fast as the media was to respond, it relied on the amateur video captured at the scene --and even professional reports were then edited and repurposed by citizen journalists dedicated to telling their own version of the tale. When speaking to the jaded pros, police spokespeople have found themselves chasing a story driven by grassroots outrage -- one that couldn't be put to rest by stroking a few familiar faces. [More]

As we've seen time and again, many times we can't even get a first word out of them, or the ones they come up with are both hopelessly ignorant and agenda-driven.

We're the Only Ones Authorized to Crack the Code Enough

It's known in police circles as professional courtesy, and now there's a website where cops complain about other cops who won't extend that courtesy.

The "authorized journalists" take note of what lowly bloggers have been talking about for some time.

I'd like to address something posted on the "Only Ones" Entitlement Site that I didn't cover the first time out. On their "About Us" page, they state:

Should we be given breaks on tickets that normal people would be given a break?
Yes. Best Buy employees get an employee price (which is awesome), Subway employees get free subs, military people get free hops on planes, airline employees get the jet around the world for free ($50 is free). Every profession gets some kind of 'perk'.

Is it fair?
No, but when is life ever fair.

Best Buy is a private company, and the employee policy is authorized and overseen by management. Ditto for Subway and the airlines. As for the military, that too is authorized by command--you don't think an enlisted man can just hop on any flight he wants, do you? If we were to truly apply their analogy, it would mean a Best Buy employee could--on his own authorization, determine whatever discount struck him as "fair" based on his own say-so, and give it to a friend who works for a different electronics company. That's called employee theft, and people get fired for it all the time.

As for when life is fair, allow me to shed some light--when Constitutional laws apply equally to all citizens, regardless of their station, profession or circumstances of birth. There's a document that covers government rules of conduct on this, particularly Amendment XIV. These self-entitled whiners ought to try reading it some time (and as long as they're there, they might want to check out the Bill of Rights, too, especially if their job required them to take some kind of oath or affirmation).

When 'Authorized Journalists' and 'Only Ones' Collide

How does that "endanger" anyone, Audrey? Like gun owners who try to obey "the law" are the problem? Belief in which, of course, is part of the plan...

The real outrage here isn't even that "permits" are so selectively "authorized"-- although if her paper wants to do something useful, they could demonstrate the bias.

The real outrage here is that "permits" to exercise a right exist at all.
