Ducey IS the Disaster

We are hearing that there is a strong possibility that “Ducey’s Disaster” could be introduced in the Legislature this coming week. Though most of us have not yet seen the actual language of his so-called “School Safety” proposal, his public press release contained more than enough to be concerned about. Everything from court ordered firearms confiscations (and involuntary mental evaluations) that would disarm you based on the feelings of friends or family that you “could” be dangerous, down to proposals that would make parents felons for the unlawful actions of their children. [More]
Honest-- I didn't set out to make this a theme for today.  I just can't stop from running into it.

A Giant Ducey

Ducey previously tweeted in regard to Nike that "we don't need to suck up to companies that consciously denigrate our nation's history." [More]
Now he can't "take a knee" fast enough.

Upside Down on 2A

A few dozen GOP loyalists shouted down Ducey at Saturday’s AZGOP state convention, interrupting his speech to shame him for having proposed “red flag laws.” ... a...couple dozen people stood, waved signs and chanted, “no red flag”... [More]

They were told to shut up and sit down or they would be removed.  Meanwhile, Il Ducey responded by saying "Arizona is the number one pro-Second Amendment state in the nation, and that’s not going to change," and is proceeding with the con that STOP orders are different from "red flag laws" because they're kinder, gentler prior restraint denials of due process or something...

And yeah, I realize you have to subscribe to the Yellow Sheet Report to access the link-- I tried to give you the gist of this story without stepping on their copyrights. If you're interested in getting insider tips on Arizona politics, it looks like a pretty good source.

A Bloomberg-Approved Veto

Today, May 10, Governor Ducey vetoed HB 2524, the AzCDL-requested interstate firearms compact bill.  HB 2524 would have prohibited Arizona and other member states from enacting firearm transfer requirements that are more restrictive that existing federal law. [More]
Thanks for making things easier for Bloomberg, governor. That jewel sure will look nice in his crown.

After all, everyone knows the best way to stall an invasion is to remove defensive barriers.

So much for thinking outside the box.

Apologists don't want us doing that anyway.

Pima Sheriff Claims ‘Only Ones’ Status to Nix Arming Teachers

“The Sheriff says he and Governor Ducey feel it’s not practical to arm teachers because they’d have to become as well trained as deputies.”[More]
The next time some smug hoplophobe tells you citizens shouldn’t carry because police are trained, test them to see if they know what they’re talking about.

It's Bird, It's a Plane Redux

"I endanger my life with a reason and a purpose," Jones told KOMO's Luke Ducey Monday. [More]
That's not what I object to, although I still think you're being foolhardy, and this latest incident underscores my point. It's not being able to handle situations you escalate that can then endanger the lives of others that I object to.

You have to be prepared to do whatever it takes to end the encounter. You have no right to endanger others by engaging and not being so prepared.

Point/Counterpoint

From the AP:
The amendment adopted in the Senate guts a major part of Republican Gov. Doug Ducey’s school safety plan.
From AzCDL:
In sum, while we do believe the bill is no longer the egregious threat to our liberties that it started as, it still needs work before we can consider it to be a positive contribution to the public policy of our great state.

Trump Pills

Episode 871 Scott Adams: It's Time to Stop Using an Obama Afghanistan Strategy Against a Virus [Watch]
I stipulate I'm absolutely not qualified to weigh in with an informed opinion on the science, but this looks like something to ask those who may be. $20 and "a bit of diarrhea" or "drown in your own lung juice"? Centralized planning by those whose incompetence and power obsessions got us into this mess, or take matters into our own hands?

It does seem worth asking your doctor what he'd do if things got up close and personal.

One other thing Adams mentions briefly toward the end is pressure from the people as a factor in government deciding to reopen businesses, and that makes me wonder if we will start to see civil disobedience. I know many are desperate. As I mentioned in an earlier post, younger feral son Qusay is a chef at a local restaurant (who is still working thanks to take-out and catering orders while most of the staff has been "furloughed") and he told us one of their food suppliers had a "friends and family" sale to unload inventory that's not moving and get some cash coming in, and to mitigate its losses.

True, cities can retaliate against individual businesses by pulling their licenses, but if a critical mass of the tax base joined forces and had a reopening "strike," what are they gonna do? Send the cops in to round up them and their customers?

When the choice is between dying and trying, what have people got to lose?

UPDATE - This seems relevant:
“What does Governor Doug Ducey know about medicine? He’s a stupid politician. You, my doctor, who specializes in respiratory illnesses, is a far better expert on the subject. You more than anyone should know when it is safe to give this test, and to whom. That you are allowing a politician tell you how to treat your patients is to my mind literally unethical.”

Turning Blue

Dem Mark Kelly Continues To Dominate Sen. Martha McSally on Fundraising Front [More]
And whose fault is it for taking the fire out of our bellies?

Add Flake, McCain, and Ducey, and is it any wonder the consensus is that the elephant is dying from self-inflicted wounds?
