A team of world-leading neuroscientists has developed a powerful technique that allows them to look deep inside a person's brain and read their intentions before they act.

The research breaks controversial new ground in scientists' ability to probe people's minds and eavesdrop on their thoughts, and raises serious ethical issues over how brain-reading technology may be used in the future.

Ooh, ooh-- I know how, I know how!

First, we scan all gun owners, both before we issue them a license, and maybe every year thereafter, just to make sure they're still "safe" (although why anyone would want a gun probably makes them suspect and disqualifies them in the first place, wouldn't you think?.

Then, when the technology matures and the hardware interface can be designed, we require everyone to wear an intention device so that we can stop trouble before it happens. We'll be able to make them small and unobtrusive enough by then--maybe even code the circuitry into the same forehead markings they'll be using to identify themselves and conduct business, social and political transactions.

Who could possibly be against this--except someone with something to hide?

The Great Global Warming Swindle

Yeah, I know it's not gun rights-related, but this is really all about truth and freedom anyway. The parallels between the collectivists and the lies they use to embed themselves into the culture to promote an anti-human agenda are things we expose every day on the RKBA front, so this is useful if for no other reason than to show us the methods employed by our enemies--and there's really no other word for them--on another issue with significant impact on individual and economic freedom.

This video takes an hour and a quarter--if you can't watch it today, bookmark the link and get back to it when you can. It really is well done, and will help focus our understanding on how control agendas are started, politicized and infused into the public consciousness.

Hitching a Ride With Grace

Buddy Stieger saw my romantic sportscar ride with Grace, and decided moving in on my girl was more important than our friendship.

The thought strikes that "Hitching a Ride With Grace" would be a fun way for bloggers to show us what they look like so we can put a face with the name. I don't do tags, but if you want to join in, now that Grace has left me by the side of the road, I don't care who she picks up.

More Guns Less Crime

Six years after new rules made it much easier to get a license to carry concealed weapons, the number of Michiganders legally packing heat has increased more than six-fold.

But dire predictions about increased violence and bloodshed have largely gone unfulfilled, according to law enforcement officials and, to the extent they can be measured, crime statistics.

Who could have imagined?

And I just love this character Kenneth Levin:

In a letter to the Free Press in July 2001, he referred to the "inevitable first victim of road or workplace rage as a result of this law."

Last month, Levin said he suspected "it probably hasn't turned out as bad as I thought. I don't think I was wrong, but my worst fears weren't realized."

You were clearly wrong, dead wrong, demonstrably wrong, couldn't have been more wrong, out there bare-ass naked in the town square* wrong, but you don't "think" you were wrong? That's OK, Kenneth. Just squeeze your eyes shut real tight, put your hands over your ears and chant "LALALALA!" real loud and maybe the truth will go away.

The Chaser's War on Democracy

Yeah, the guy doing the interview is a liberal Aussie, and there's no telling how many people he talked to before finding the ones he used in this segment. There's also no telling how poorlyhis countrymen would fare with similar questioning, but this is still a frightening statement on the American electorate.

These people all have opinions they believe in, however ill-informed those may be. That means if you asked them questions about "gun control," you could expect more ignorance.

Government's media partners know this. They employ catch and release tactics, hitting their target audience with emotional appeals and sound bites that will penetrate and register before their viewers' attention span is over and their focus wanders elsewhere.

And their votes can cancel out yours, and determine which rights government will feel emboldened to restrict.

A "Pro-Gun" Democrat

Gov. Ted Strickland endorsed Hillary Clinton for president yesterday and will campaign with her in Iowa today, fueling speculation that he will be on Clinton's short list of possible running mates next year if she wins the Democratic nomination.

But he's our friend!

I don't suppose it's occurred to anyone that we're being played, or as Stieger says:

We've been conned. Bare-ass naked in the town square conned.

Think about it--"The Winning Team" helped put him in office--over an A-rated Republican, one supported, incidentally, by GOA and various state grassroots groups. He then endorses their biggest enemy, and she in turn could give him the opportunity to vacate his office to an avowed anti--one everybody knew about in the campaign. There's a master chess strategy for you.

Even if these speculations don't come to pass, anyone who endorses Hillary has picked his priorities, and is no friend of gun owners.

I can't wait to hear the spin chastising me for not realizing that "politics is the art of the possible." How those who preemptively surrender and go for short-term opportunistic manipulation as part of the game plan can be authorities on what truly is possible lies beyond my poor ability to fathom.

Lady Liberty Interviews Matthew Bracken

In 2003, author Matthew Bracken published Enemies Foreign and Domestic, the first novel of a planned trilogy. With its focus on a government set-up that resulted in draconian gun control measures, it gained good reviews and much appreciation from readers. As gun control advocates have continued in their efforts to disarm the law abiding, it also seemed to offer some chilling warnings.

This year, Bracken released the second novel in the trilogy. Domestic Enemies held onto the background established in the first novel, but added to it the probable result of continued unfettered illegal immigration into the country. Once again, the reality is striking even as the story holds the reader's interest.

After reading Domestic Enemies and finding myself genuinely fearful of some of the near future it outlines, I determined to speak with Matthew Bracken and discuss just how real his fiction might - unfortunately - prove to be. Mr. Bracken kindly agreed to answer some questions, and here is the result of our recent conversation.

It's Those "Other Purposes"

On Sept. 28, key rights guaranteed by our Constitution, plus the central tenet of the Magna Carta, were nullified by an act of Congress – specifically, the Military Commissions Act of 2006, "to authorize trial by military commission for violations of the law of war, and for other purposes." It's those "other purposes" you have to watch out for.

Theoretical question: If guns are banned and confiscation begins, and some Americans engage in coordinated defiance and resistance, will they be classified "unlawful enemy combatants"...?

"I Want That Person to Think"

Yesterday, I posted a link sent to me by a friend. Here are some further thoughts he sent me:

See, yesterday, I was hobbling around a VA hospital, jumping through bureaucratic hoops so I could go home. The last hoop to stumble through was to pick up my travel pittance (disabled vets get that). Actually, I'm being unfair. The funds allowed, per mile, are more than adequate if you hitchhike, sleep in a ditch, and look at the whole thing as fasting practice.

Anyhow, the lady at the cashier's window was about 45 or so, her face crisscrossed with stress lines, the corners of her lips turned down-- the saddest permanent frown I'd heretofore seen. Red-eyed, unkempt.

On her cubicle's right was the reason:

Photo of a very-young Marine-- likely the first time he'd worn his dress blues. "11-01-05" and "Iraq" told me that sometime last November he'd worn those one last time, forever.

It would have been totally inauthentic for me to ignore something as plain as that -- at least, something plain as that to someone like me. So I offered the sincerest condolences I could, that I could find words for -- and as neutrally put as I could.

I also told her that I write, sometimes well enough to be appreciated by some of the few who, remarkably, still have an interest in the printed word. And I told her I intended to fashion something to illustrate the meaning of her child's dying.

I have no idea what that something will be. But I'm certain what I want it to do: I want just one person to turn off their fucking television set for a while, and in its stead read something outside that silly, stupid Media paradigm. Something to facilitate learning just a little bit about how and why -- and most important! -- the fact itself, viz. that the person has been living in a world built of lies... one where even the simplest of mental processes have been skewed, so skewed that the most blatant of obvious nonsense is routinely lapped up, like a dog eagerly licking at the ploppings from a baby's diaper.

I want that person to begin learning to see what I saw in that shattered mother's face. I want that person to begin to think.
