The Comfort Zone

“They have a button, if they’re uncomfortable they can press the button to show ‘hey someone has boarded with a gun’.” [More]
"Officials" in charge can take steps to ensure training with the law is administered and documented, or they can wait until someone gets killed and get sued.

Kind of like Mike DeSwine has done in Ohio.

They'll Need More than That

According to court documents, the user posted a threat to assault federal law enforcement officers writing, "...shoot every agent on sight," in a discussion about the Branch Davidian standoff in Waco in 1993. [More]
There's a big difference between an opinion and a threat, and that hardly seems as specific as, say, Madonna telling a mob she wanted to blow up the White House. Unless there's a lot more we're not being told, an honest juror would have plenty of reasonable doubt.

Not to say the kid doesn't merit a closer look and possibly more, but this looks more like picking low-hanging fruit to grab sensational hero headlines and justify a six-month "investigation." It will no doubt be used to pressure DeSwine into earning back his Brady "A" by calling for upping Ohio's handgun possession laws.

More KoolAid, Please

Election Day is different from other public events.  [More]
Oh, bullshit.

You don't know.

Neither do "they":
“Cases can be very misleading to the public because it’s a past historical event. Because of our lack of testing, cases are just the tip of the iceberg. ... We will not have an accurate picture of that,” Acton said.
On top of that, pediatrician/PR flack Amy is not credentialed for this nor can she cite a single peer-reviewed study to back up her earlier "safe" call. And on top of that, were the assurances true, they would not be scrambling to replace polling locations deemed too "high risk" because they're at retirement communities and the like.

Government was useless at protecting anyone from anything and now they're talking out their asses.  While we do all the paying. And DeSwine ignores his own culpability.

There is no "100" magic number.  And regardless, senior voters and poll workers who are mostly seniors would still be in the "at risk" category.

And I note nobody's having a bash anytime soon.

For the first time in years I will not be working the polls. Between my age and the fact that I'm still taking prescription medication for a respiratory problem that doesn't quite seem ready to leave, along with the lack of knowledge and the demonstrable fact that the politics über alles crowd is lying to us (and, based on removing and then retroactively disallowing YouTube comments, suppressing challenges to their lies) I'll not be there tomorrow,

What I can say with certainty is there is no way to "sanitize" things with 100% effectiveness. I know the process from start to finish.  There's no way.

My "solution"? Hey, I'm just commenting on what is, not what should be.

I voted absentee. Perhaps postpone things a month and see where we are then. It'll be interesting to see how many poll workers opt out at the last minute, meaning it could be a mess and the queue could soon go way over 100.

My only point is for them to be ordering all the extraordinary closures (younger feral son Qusay is a chef and he's out of work now until told he can go back) and then turn around and assure us it's safe to gather and have multiple interactions with multiple people is demonstrably not credible and motivated by factors other than health.

And I expect people from "our side" to be a bit more skeptical of government assurances before sounding the "All clear" to their followers.

If you do go to the polls in Ohio and wherever else primaries re happening tomorrow, I suggest wearing an effective mask (you can make one if you can't find one) and disposable gloves.

UPDATE:
No duh.

Except a judge says "Die!"

As Dangerous as the DeSwine Flu?

"I like to think they don’t fully understand," DeWine said. "This bill is a dangerous bill."[More]

So is ceding dictatorial power to an executive who has proven to be so unprincipled in the past.

We're the Only Ones Fearful Enough

Acknowledging that they have a weapon, they said, can open them up to violence from police, who can then claim they feared for their lives simply because of the presence of a gun, even a legal one. [More]
"Professional" fear and ignorance aren't limited by the race being encountered. For instance, here in Ohio, that, along with "Only One" arrogance, is something the ever-fraudulent Mike DeSwine showed deliberate indifference to, before politics convinced him he needed to at least make some noises.

Stop the Squeal

Trump says Ohio governor's race will be 'hotly contested' after DeWine acknowledges Biden win [More]

What can I say but "DeSwine"?

And he's not the only Republic***.

Like Mammaries on a Bull

The ever-subversive Sherrod Brown, responding to concerns over this and this:

This is what the Republicans get when they present us with steaming stool samples like the even more useless Mike DeSwine.

Two from Workman

  • Michigan: Anti-gun Virgil Smith charged.
  • Ohio: Open carry victory
That second one strikes close to home for more than one reason: That's precisely over what that Republiweasel Mike DeSwine and the two previous AGs had washed their hands of after I notified them of incidents pointing to the need for better police training to make sure they understood the law.

A Law Unto Themselves

Lawyers for Ohioans for Concealed Carry (OFCC) and Students for Concealed Carry Foundation (SCCF) will argue tomorrow morning at 9:00 am before Judge Jim Slagle in Marion County Common Pleas Court against dismissal of a lawsuit challenging the unlawful policies of The Ohio State University (OSU), which grossly violate Ohio’s statewide preemption law, ORC Section 9.68. [More]
And guess which side DeSwine is on.

Education News from 'The Barely Adequate State'

High school students won’t have to be “proficient” in either math or English to graduate, under minimum required test scores proposed by State Superintendent Paolo DeMaria. They will just need to know enough to do the most basic of jobs. [More]
Just enough to get by. There's an appropriate state motto for ya.

Still, it's necessary if DeSwine is going to finalize his next bit of treachery.

Ol' Paolo must be doing a great job-- he just got a swell raise. And the convoluted way the trough-feeder system is set up pretty much guarantees the swamp will fester and endure.

And they could do a better job, you know. My own school district got pretty good grades on everything that matters except the most important, and is doing dismally on "Diversity." Give it a few years and we'll see those numbers readjust.

It's so nice living in a Republican state after all those years in California.

The Enemies Within

Ohio Supreme Court proposes rules to seize and destroy guns [More]
Every one of them is a "Republican," with most being elected (which makes finding who endorsed them relevant) and some appionted by kAss-itch®.

You know who else is on the court?  Sonny Boy to DeSwine.

These are the guys I'm going to "petition."

There's Something About Mary

In action - it is all Mary Taylor.  When she was in the statehouse she was an original co-sponsor of Ohio's original concealed handgun licensing bill HB12.  The next session she co-sponsored statewide preemption; the very law that we used JUST LAST WEEK to beat back the anti-gun forces in Cleveland. [More]
Me, I've long been part of the "Anyone But DeSwine" crowd.

That said, "No stance on record" is unacceptable. If you're in her corner, you'd better let her know that.

None Dare Call It Treason

Here Are the Republican Governors Who Betrayed Trump, and Their Constituents, by Asking for Refugee Resettlement in Their States [More]

Figures that treacherous @$$hole DeSwine is one of them.

We're the Only Ones Uncompromising Enough

The settlement included an apology by the defendant police officer acknowledging respect for citizens’ First and Second Amendment rights and stating “[it] was not my intention to compromise Mr. Howard’s rights under the Constitution.” [More]
Well I hope you guys in Virginia get better training to keep from killing a citizen than Brady Campaign "principled statesman" and  Ohio AG Mike DeSwine is willing to ensure.

Hogan's Zeroes

Dear Larry Hogan I Want Back the Votes I Cast for You and While You're at It Could You Just Go Away [More]

With "Republicans" like him, or Kass-Itch or DeSwine, there's no point in men like me voting anymore.

Which the unimaginative think is a good thing...

We're the Only Ones Protected from On High Enough

It took more than four years, however, for the sheriff to finally be brought to justice, and it was no thanks to Mike DeWine, no matter how many times he claims otherwise. It was, in fact, despite DeWine’s continuing efforts to protect him that Overmyer was convicted on multiple drug and theft charges last year and sent to a state prison. [More]
DeSwine exemplifying hypocrisy by straddling both sides of the fence...? Aw, go on.

The Lesser of Two Intolerable Acts?

The leader of the Ohio House had pointed to a bill that would change gun and mental health laws as an alternative to Gov. Mike DeWine’s anti-gun violence package. [More]
Where have I heard "We've GOT to give them SOMETHING" before?
After Sandy Hook, there was a cadre of insiders discussing appeasement measures to help quell the gun ban feeding frenzy, operating on the assumption that “we have to give them something—we can’t offer nothing!” Some colleagues and I were privy to those discussions, and we did our best to make it clear that any sign of weakness or surrender would be loudly condemned. Instead, our unequivocal warning to politicians was: WE WON’T STAND FOR SCAPEGOATING NO NEW GUN LAWS DENY SUCCESS TO MASS MURDERERS BY ABOLISHING PHONY ‘GUN-FREE’ VICTIM / KILLER-ENABLING ZONES NOW WORK WITH US OR WE WILL WORK TO RETIRE YOU
As for DeSwine, he'll never get my vote no matter what.
