A Public/Private Partnership

Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman today announced the members of the Arizona Department of Education’s School Safety Task Force. The task force was created in partnership with March for Our Lives AZ after attempts to create such a task force failed at the Legislature during the last legislative session. [More]
Do I understand this right? The legislature refused to authorize it, so she's going ahead on her own say-so and using public insignia, resources, facilities, and personnel to promote a political agenda?

Forget "Why don't they fire her?" Why don't they arrest her, and everyone involved?

Someone explain...?

Including how a Portland Democrat can win statewide office in Arizona...?

Oh.

Good thing this has nothing to do with that "single issue." Right, "saviors"?

A Public/Private Partnership

FBI Deputizes Private Contractors With Extraordinary Powers, Including 'Shoot to Kill'...

InfraGard is not readily accessible to the general public. Its communications with the FBI and Homeland Security are beyond the reach of the Freedom of Information Act under the "trade secrets" exemption, its website says. And any conversation with the public or the media is supposed to be carefully rehearsed. [More]
Sounds pretty fascist to me.

We do need to bear in mind that this report is written under the banner of "The Progressive." Still, we shouldn't just dismiss it out of hand. Is it leftist hysteria? Or does this make some good points that we ignore at our peril?

Here's the InfraGard website.

Anybody here have any kind of direct knowledge about them?

A Public Utility

Don't these cable companies have to make concessions to get exclusive rights to wire an area up? The same thing that forces them to offer public access channels and the like? Seems to me someone who understands this aspect of the law may be able to find a clause that would make such blatant discrimination unallowable... [Read]

The same could be said for networks that use "public airwaves."

To require it would hardly be imposing on a free market, as the economic fascist "public/private partnership" has already been established to the mutual benefit and enjoyment of both government and industry.  Plus the politically correct "progressive" corporatist media cowards gave up on free advertising speech a long time ago -- they made their deal with the devil, let them now live with it.

I say any chair in a bar fight.  If Comcast enjoys exclusive rights of way and easements, the hell with their censorship against normalizing guns, legal products regarded with special Constitutional significance. And as long as the Commerce Clause is invoked for everything else...

The BATFU Horse and Pony Show

Federal agents raided a Gilbert gun store on Wednesday, seizing hundreds of high-powered and military-style weapons in the process, though authorities were silent as to why.
What did they say on the old Mickey Mouse Club?

"Why? Because we like you!"

And because they can.

Me, I'm interested in learning more about this "public/private partnership," the contractor partner in the raid, Forfeiture Support Associates. They, their relationship with the government and the people behind them deserve much closer scrutiny and should not be operating under the radar, as they will if we rely on "Authorized Journalists" to provide any kind of oversight.

They're too busy being shocked, shocked at a Cavalry Arms Internet spoof and consulting the Council on American Islamic relations about a perceived attack on "Muslim Men...for the purpose of selling a semiautomatic rifle!"

"12 News did some digging," reporterette Kevin Kennedy assures us somberly. He must not have dug too deeply, because the first thing you see when you click the video link on Cavalry Arms' website is the disclaimer:

This video is a work of satire, parodying 1950s style Public Service Announcements.

This video is not racist, as jihadists are not a race. Note, at no point do we say anything about Islam as a whole. The enemies in the video, and those our armed forces are currently fighting are radical islamic extremists.

We do not endorse the unlawful use of deadly force against anyone. All the jihadists in this video are armed, and would constitute a deadly threat in all 50 states.

But ol' Kevin and the rest of the 12 News Team apparently think the story here is about a "CONTROVERSIAL COMMERCIAL." Hey, when you're working hand-in-hand with the government on a story, you need to have a villain, and cast him in as unsympathetic a light as possible. What's a little propaganda manipulation among friends?

Never mind the staged media circus with tables full of evil, icky guns guaranteed to shock a public conditioned to disapprove why anyone needs "weapons of war." And never mind that the increasingly visible spokesjbt Tom Mangan lends his smooth telepresence to the scene.

And then never mind that not only does Cavalry Arms endorse the Second Amendment, they're not shy about using the First Amendment to promote it.

We'll find more in the coming days about the excuse behind the raid, but we do know this much: The purpose in conducting it this way was to send a message, and that message is that BATFU can and will crush a hub not only for supplying arms, but for providing training, education and information about arms use as well as the right to keep and bear them.

As with Waco and Ruby Ridge, both with strong publicity motives behind the way they were conducted, the agency is using a complicit media to shore up a reputation damaged by recent events, in this case the delaying of the "Maximum Mike" nomination.

In a sense, they've been stung and frustrated by people pushing back, and defiance is something they will not tolerate. As Star Trek's Captain Kirk said in "The Devil in the Dark" (how's that for an appropriate title?):
There's nothing more dangerous than a wounded animal.
MORE:

Ryan asks since when has money laundering been a BATFU concern?
Nicki hears there may be a disgruntled former employee somewhere in the mix.

We're the Only Ones in Public/Private Partnership Enough

The commander of a Contra Costa County drug task force and the head of a high-profile, Concord-based private investigative firm were arrested Wednesday on allegations they conspired to sell drugs, authorities said. [More]
Hey, there were only two of them, lending credence to the 'few bad apples" theory, right...?

Ah, here we go:
"It's not reflective of our agency or our agents..."
Because none of them have been arrested before, you see...even though this has apparently been going on with one of their top guys for years.

Repeal the Chicago Tribune

Repeal the 2nd Amendment
Well, if you can repeal one, why not the other?

Still, in the Trib's case, we may not need to do anything but watch them shrivel into further irrelevancy. And as more "Authorized Journalists" are "downsized" out, they may find themselves unable to obtain placement. The great big happy global public/private partnership they're so eager for the rest of us to transition to is finding out that ink-stained wretches, too, can be outsourced.

You've done our work. We have no further need for you.

[Via HZ]

UPDATE: Mike Vanderboegh weighs in with a letter to the idi...uh...editor:

re: Your call to repeal the Second Amendment

Provoking a bloody civil war by repealing the Second Amendment is an odd way to secure "public safety." Do you think American gun owners would simply stay quiet and do nothing if our God-given, inalienable rights (which are merely enumerated in the Bill of Rights and not created by it) were "legally" stripped from us? Don't extrapolate from your own cowardice. Just because you would do anything the government told you to do doesn't mean we would. And remember, we're the ones with the firearms.

Democracy, unrestrained by a constitutional republican framework, is three wolves and a sheep sitting down to vote on what, or who, to have for dinner. But by all means, go ahead and repeal the Second Amendment. The "sheep" will pull out a .45 and plug all three of your wolves before they can start drooling.

The Nice Thing in Their View

The nice thing in their view is that absolutely no warrants are needed. To gain public acceptance, the surveillance program is being initially sold as an aid for police looking to solve Amber Alert cases and locate stolen cars."
See? It's "for the children."

Capitalists...I mean, public/private partnership fascists selling rope again I see... but hey--if you're not doing anything wrong, what have you got to hide?

And remember--"they" hate us because we're free.

The Court of Public Opinion Makers

Until and unless journalists improve their performance, far more innocent people will be imprisoned than the criminal justice system seems likely ever to acknowledge. The logical extension of the preceding statement seems obvious, but I’ll say it anyway: Unless journalists get better at covering the justice system, many criminals will continue to go unpunished, free to murder or rape or rob again.
Heavens! Does this mean that gun owners, among others, can be convicted in the media with sensationalism, ignorance and hysteria?

I'm pessimistic that positive change will happen unless a greater portion of the general populace becomes aware and jealous of their rights, creating a competitive market demand for it. Until then, the government/"Authorized Journalist" public/private partnership will continue the fraud.

Paul Mulshine, Authorized Journalist

The type of person who can't even keep track of the number of times the letter "N" appears in a two-syllable word is not the type of person who is going to offer great insight into complex issues. [More]
I'm professional and you're not. And you can't even pronounce "pundit."

So there.

My, aren't we sophisticated and superior?

That must be why I've compiled an entire category of "Authorized Journalist" examples detailing bias and ignorance about the gun issue that is repeated over and over and...

And tell me that's the only issue where they push an agenda and get it so consistently wrong. You know, what this elitist characterizes as "doing what we in fact do amazingly well, which is to quickly analyze and report on complex public issues."

You credentialed flacks for the police state had your chance and blew whatever trust you had along with the establishment rulers you serve. Watchdogs turned into lapdogs a long time ago.

And now the fascist dinosaur propagandists want a bailout? At our expense?

Why not? It's been a public/private partnership all my life anyway, at least ideologically. Just one thing: As long as we're considering a form of national socialist journalism, can we call the resulting enterprise something like "Der Stürmer"?

Just like the way they get around Second Amendment infringement proscriptions!
