Rolling Stone ‘gun lover’ shows curious interpretation of Second Amendment

I note he doesn’t flesh out how it is morally justifiable to use guns against, say, the group that stands for limited government, free markets and federalism. What would the circumstance be for whacking them, and who else would make his list? At what point will it be cool to start targeting “teabagger” firms, and is anyone who works for or with them fair game? [More]

Today's Gun Rights Examiner report notes, if Rolling Stone has its way, the Prozis may be able to start shooting conservatives and libertarians any day now.

Like a Rolling Stone

Rolling Stone, which is on an anti-gun... uh... roll of late, takes on Larry Pratt and GOA, and while long on guilt by association and ad hominem, the author of this hit piece doesn't seem to realize that what he basically does is bolster everything that Pratt maintains about the proper role of guns and an armed citizenry. As usual, if "progressives' can't actually prove anything, they switch gears to imply you're a racist and a homophobe. And change the subject to bongs.  But flaws and deception noted, it's worth spending 10 - 15 minutes to read the entire piece -- there's some instructive history documented here, especially about NRA.

Even the most damning of charges, that Pratt lied about Manchin-Toomey being a part of a national gun registry, is deceptively couched.  Of course the bill "reiterated existing laws" -- but once those "laws" are changed -- and tell me with a straight face that isn't a goal...

I'll come up with a hundred damn proofs without breaking a sweat that registration is absolutely a goal, but the antis will take what they can get now to work toward it in increments.  Once you end private sales and create records of transactions, the data is there. It simply becomes a matter of compiling it.

Conspicuously absent is the one great warning embraced and promulgated by GOA, but avoided by other gun groups, and actually subverted by the largest: How illegal immigration leading to amnesty will result in an anti-gun Democrat majority, capable of enacting edicts, and upholding them via a Supreme Court where only one vote shift is needed.

I can't help but wonder if they intentionally avoided it because they don't want to call attention to accurate target acquisition. I don't believe for a minute that Alexander Zaitchik, who obviously did a ton of research, is unaware of GOA's singular leadership on this issue, meaning he didn't want to explore it. Why?

Why GOA continues to lag in membership reflects on "profiles in apathy" more than anything else.  I suppose if they came up with slicker packaging and a more savvy social media presence, that would help, but the reality is, if someone is capable of recognizing the truths they present, that shouldn't matter.

Should it?

Bloomberg's casual use of a sexual vulgarity in front of "Amanda" implies it's routine. It also implies that she puts up with it because he’s the boss, he’s powerful as hell, she's a relatively powerless woman, and complaining about an offensive work environment created by a temperamental billionaire narcissist control fanatic would be, at the very least, career limiting. Hey, as long as they listen, he'll go easy on them. Just don't make him say it twice.

Still, assuming there are serious continued cash flow concerns, here are a few suggestions: Get back to core Bylaws Purposes and Objectives, stop with the phony grades, recognize the main threat, stop promoting citizen disarmament and you may win some of the disaffected back -- if you can convince them you're sincere.

In any case, I'm sure Wayne and Chris have a luxury lifeboat ready to launch if they drive the ship up on the rocks.

Bloomberg Wants You Dead

We talked about the cult leader's approving Rolling Stone interview here, focusing on his insufferable elitist snobbery.

Kevin Starrett thinks it's important to highlight another bit of hypocrisy from page 2 of the interview (the whole thing is ludicrous, but this point is especially telling):

No, I mean, guns are dangerous. The statistics are overwhelming. You're something like 22 times more likely to get killed in your home if you have a gun than if you don't. [Gestures at a staffer.] Let's say Amanda's trying to break in. "Excuse me, Amanda, I've gotta go get my gun to shoot you. Now, where did I put that combination to that lock? And the bullets were where? I don't know what the fuck…how do you turn the safety off?" Are you kidding me? The last thing you want to do when somebody breaks in and puts a gun toward you is try to go for a gun. That's really stupid. I don't know if you're going to get shot one way, but I guarantee you're going to get killed the other way.

But on the Everytown site:

When parents store their guns safely, they dramatically lower the chance of accidental shootings and suicides in their homes. But more than two million American children live in homes with unsecured guns.

We can't overlook those who survive because of that. Or those who die in homes with "secured" guns.

As was observed in Bloomberg's candidate survey, demanding to make that mandatory is one of the criteria he's going to be judging politicians on:

Do you support a law that would allow a prosecutor to bring charges if a gun owner stores a firearm negligently, a minor accesses the gun, and harm results?

In other words, lock up your safety or be destroyed, or lock up your safety AND be destroyed.

Heads he wins, tails you lose.
