OK, Here We Go...

A gunman entered an immigration services center in downtown Binghamton on Friday, shot at least four people and took as many as 41 hostage, according to media reports.

Mayor Matthew Ryan told the Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin that there was a hostage situation involving a gunman with a high-powered rifle.[More]

And there obviously wasn't anyone there who could deny giving him what he wanted. There obviously wasn't another "gunman."

Police officials said two weapons have been found. According to one police report a 9 mm pistol was recovered as SWAT team officers entered the building.

Per MSNBC, on in the background, he recently lost his job. From IBM.

UPDATE: Voong is apparently an alias. Some FBI profiler douchebag, Clint somebody, is giving the "Only One" speech against people being armed, saying it's a job for the police. I should know better than to have MSNBC on. They are getting ready to search his house. The pistols were permitted. That does not mean he had a CCW--but it doesn't mean he didn't.

UPDATE: 14 confirmed dead. Four in critical condition. It took police two minutes to get on scene following the 911 call, but they don't know how much time had elapsed from the time the shooting started until the call was made. Gov. Paterson made the obligatory When will we as a society do something? statement, but did not specifically mention gun control. Yet. The police chief now says there is no indication a rifle was used. They aren't positive the shooter is dead but have reason to believe it is him--from guns and ammo to the fact that his car is the one that was blocking the back door to keep people from escaping.

Chism said he was stopped for a seat belt violation while driving a grain truck to an Emmetsburg ethanol plant in northwest Iowa. The DOT officer allegedly pulled his gun, shoved it in Chism's face and handcuffed him after harassing him in the hot sun for more than an hour and a half, said Chism's lawyer, Scott Buchanan of Algona.

The farmer never said an impolite word or threatened the officer in any way, Buchanan claimed. He alleged that with the gun pointed at Chism's head, the officer said, "I can do anything I want." Chism was arrested and accused of felony assault on a police officer, but the charge was later dropped.[More]

The University is unwilling to allow even the mere presence of dangerous weapons. While some objects are clearly dangerous, what is used dangerously may also be considered a weapon.

We're the Only Ones Uncharged Enough

Charges against two Monterey County policemen arrested last summer in Mexico for alleged gun and ammunition smuggling have been dropped by a Mexican court.

Yeah, they could have just forgotten they had them. I suppose some might believe that. Still, does anyone think a non-"Only One" would have had the charges dropped without explanation?

Mind you, I'm not accusing anyone of threatening to talk, thereby implicating any Mexican official(s) as partners in whatever apparently was(n't) going on. That would be irresponsible without anything other than a gut feeling that this story stinks and I don't buy it for a second.

Perhaps I'd be less suspicious if we weren't being consistently lied to.

Thomas Naziworth: Democrat

Not everyone thinks the idea of increasing gun ownership is a good idea. Any effort to put more guns on the street is wrong headed, says the head of the Clay County Democratic Party.

"There are too many guns," said Thomas Nazworth, Democratic Party chairman. "You’ve already got every right to defend yourself in your home. What is this going to be the wild, wild west where everybody has got sidearms? That is not answer." [More]

We're the Only Ones Doing You a Favor Enough

They said the DOT officer interrogated them. Then he ordered them to stand in front of their recreational vehicle's headlights while he checked inside, searching for marijuana or wads of cash. The officer never asked for their driver's licenses or proof of registration, they said...

"It was so strange. I literally felt afraid for my life," Jane Schneider, 59, said Monday. "I felt I could have bodily harm. ... He was very menacing and threatening to us."

One of their complaints is that the officer who stopped them repeatedly demonstrated a lack of knowledge about firearms laws, even though they were legally transporting a .40-caliber handgun with a concealed-weapon permit from the Lee County Sheriff's Department.

Carl Schneider said he was particularly upset that the officer implied he could simply call the sheriff and have the permit revoked, "which is absolutely not the case."

...But the officers didn't leave, he added, until the first officer "had made us feel as if he was somehow doing me a favor by letting us go."[More]

But of course--it's the same technique Inspector Clouseau uses when he stumbles over something to divert embarrassment from his ineptitude and incompetence. It's particularly useful after menacing a citizen without cause.

He had to let them know that even though he's a thug and a fool, he's an "Only One" and they're not.

And, as typical for our wonderful "Authorized Journalist" watchdog press, we know the names of the citizens, but not of the dangerously incompetent bullying government worker. Why is that? Maybe reporter William Petroski (bpetroski@dmreg.com) can shed some light...

If I were to give Darrell a call, and I'm not suggesting you do, I might be inclined to begin the conversation with "What's that I smell? What's that I smell?"
