Witness for the Prosecution

While Morris fled on foot, police said Brantley drove away. She was questioned and released Tuesday — but then arrested Friday on a federal charge of witnessing a felony and failing to report it...Brantley is accused of knowing Morris was a felon in possession of a gun, a federal violation. Meanwhile, Over at the Department of Pre-Crime...

A year rarely goes by when the Pennsylvania parole board doesn't come under fire because someone it let out early has killed again.

In 2008, inmates released long before their maximum sentences expired killed two police officers in Philadelphia, last year one killed a Pittsburgh police officer, and eight days ago a murderer who was twice paroled allegedly slaughtered four people in Northampton. [More]

And now some egghead says his computer can predict who will kill again--and importantly, who won't!

The story doesn't say if he'll let them stay with his family during the parole period...

We're the Only Ones Despondent Enough

“In this case - as in many cases in which armed law enforcement officers have been the subjects of covert criminal investigations - I had substantial concerns for Ms. Henderson’s safety and for the safety of others. In my training and experience, law enforcement officers can become despondent, and even suicidal, when faced with criminal charges,” O’Neil said. [More]

Seems we've run into corroboration of that fear before, and it significantly exceeds results for the general population.

Maybe all these disarmament schemes are going after the wrong people...

Weekend Update

I was hoping to take a long weekend off--lots of family coming in and chores a-plenty--just got done splitting mucho wood for the firepit--my bro-in-law brought his 8-Lb maul and I was pleased at how easy that made it--my 6-pounder doesn't do the job and I was starting to take the resulting failure with it personally.

Probably no new GRE column for the weekend. Unless something big happens. But if you're on the internet looking for gun stuff, feel free to go over there and click around on my links, because page views help put meager gruel in feral sons Uday and Qusay's bowls. Then go share the links with everyone and get them to do the same thing, and help make ME that billionaire everyone is complaining we don't have to help finance 2A efforts. Now that sounds like a plan.

Anyway, the real reason I decided to do this one post is Mike Vanderboegh may have an insight on the next head of BATFU, so I wanted to share that with anyone still hanging around this place.

Prosecutorial Discretion

"All of these statutes constitute unjustifiable infringements on the fundamental right of every law-abiding American to arm themselves for self-defense," Fox wrote in a release posted on the county's website. "Does preventing the barkeep from protecting herself when she carries the bank bag home from the tavern make sense? Not here, not anymore." [More]

That doesn't mean the town party-pooper isn't getting ready to drop trou:

Black River Falls police Chief Don Gilberg said he disagrees with Fox's assessment and that his officers will continue to enforce state and local gun laws.

"We don't think it's a good public policy," Gilberg said. "It'll make our community less safe. We don't want people walking into the courthouse or city hall or god knows where (carrying firearms)."

YOU carry guns God-knows-where, Gilberg, you elitist. What makes you better than anyone else? That they're not Wisconsin "Only Ones"?

What Would YOU Do?

I got the following email:

Don't take this the wrong way. I am an open carry supporter however I feel that I if can't open carry than this guy should either conceal it or show his badge (if he was in fact a cop).

I was eating lunch [at a] restaurant...in Houston and a guy strolls by on the way to the restroom. He has his handcuffs tucked over his belt and the butt of his sub compact Glock sticking out of his pants. When he comes out of the bathroom I noticed that he had a badge holder turned backwards and tucked between his belt and pants. He definitely looked the part of a detective. I made a comment to my wife who said what business of it is mine.

My response was that if I can't open carry then he should have to carry where everyone can see his badge. I halfway felt like reporting the suspected only one to the only ones as a man with a gun incident but decided not to as I did not want to give my name and cause issue for my wife and 2 kids who were with me.

Am I wrong in feeling that the only ones should have to show their badge properly if open carrying since open carry is not legal in Texas for anyone but an only one with a badge?

One of the thoughts I had would be to find a payphone so it could not be traced to me, call in an anonymous "man with a gun" report and then sit back and watch the fun--if they want to impose "Only One" rules on the rest of us, let them live with the inevitable consequences..
