Indementia Jones and the Kingdom in His Crusty Skull

Although on screen Ford has starred in many action-packed, gun-toting thrillers...Ford abhors liberal US gun laws.

"I'm very troubled by the proliferation of arms, at the fact so many people in the United States carry guns. It obviously contributes greatly to the crime problems we have. I'm sure gun laws should be strengthened in the United States. I just don't know the correct mechanism."
It figures. These people we attribute fictional character virtues to so often prove to be little more than stage props. This gun business isn't news, by the way--the article is from 2003. I just thought it fitting, with his new movie coming out, to revisit the fact that in real life, he'd limit Indy's defensive options to a whip.

I've got "the correct mechanism" for ya, Dr. Jones. Why not wax your chest? It worked to save the "rainforest" (has "jungle" become politically incorrect somewhere along the way and I just missed it?).

Good grief.

I mean, it's not like three homes in LA, a ranch in Wyoming and a property in New York leave much of a carbon footprint, not to mention flying private helicopters and jet planes.

None of which I begrudge anyone, by the way. I just don't particularly appreciate the in-your-face-I've-got-mine hypocrisy that seems to be the rule in Hollywood.

Aging anti-gun "action heroes." Is there anything they don't know?

Great post title, but man, you got a lot of whimsy in there...gonna have to get all that cleared out afore we can fit you with the Headband Thingy. ;-)

Hard to think of a film in which Hairynose Ford did NOT use a gun. Killed a terrorist himself WITH A PISTOL in one of the Jack Ryan movies.
I won't be wasting any money seeing his movies. Used to be a big fan. Now I see that, like Ahnold and Michael Douglas, also big anti-gun movie gun users, most of his movies would have been better with someone else. I'm not putting money in my sworn enemy's pocket.

Yup, there's something they don't know. How to keep their mouths shut when totally ignorant of the subject. When he and his Arab buddy went to lift the Ark of the Covenant out of it's storage, they would have both been struck dead. Only Jews of the Levitical Priesthood, and then only cleansed and consecrated by the Law, are able to approach the Holy of Holies. Closing his eyes later with his girlfriend would have had no effect. And Spielberg is a Jew and should have known better. But he's not a practising one, and Ford isn't a practising American.

Dear Harrison,

The "crime problems we have" is solely due to the fact that we have a lot of criminals. The reason we have a lot of criminals is

a) Heads of families have abdicated their responsibilities (this will surely be solved by our Federal leaders with more programs)
b) "Justice" meted out by the system isn't much deterrent. In other words, the drawbacks to becoming a criminal aren't as significant as we'd like to think.

So you see Harrison, you really don't know jack.

Who the hell listens to actors pontificating on any subject besides acting?

Yeah, they don't know how to be Americans.

While I don't agree with his politics and would prefer he shut the hell up about subjects he's ill equipped to talk about, I will give him props for flying search and rescue with his chopper and for allowing it to be used for SAR when he's not there to fly it. And, he does it without looking for photo-ops afterwards.
