I think people aren't aware because they have no reason to be aware. If they're not part of the gun culture, things like tactics and security don't cross their minds.
Neither does the fact that the forces of disarmament they support HATE THEM. Do black churches campaigning for more gun control even know about the ATF Good Ol' Boy Roundup picnic in the early '90s with the [N-word] Checkpoint? (Bad publicity in certain circles drove them to try the big takedown at Waco.) They know the FBI conducted surveillance on Martin Luther King Jr. It wasn't the FBI that assassinated him, though, whereas the ATF and FBI DID cause the deaths of white, Hispanic AND black Branch Davidians.
