All Things Considered

He has made an extraordinary gesture to conservatives and the party base, offering his old antagonists a partner's share in his presidency...

For should this ticket win, Palin will eclipse every other Republican as heir apparent to the presidency and will have her own power base...

Legitimate factors to consider in the mix...

Look beyond the smoke and mirrors folks... she's a politician first and forever. Put not your hope in princes... or a princess either.

When John McCain needed an appealing running-mate who could charm independents while reassuring non-neo conservatives, he looked far beyond the swamp on the Potomac. He looked as far afield as was possible on the North American continent – to Alaska governor Sarah Palin, 44 years old, mother of five, antiabortion, and pro-moose hunting. This was going outside the Beltway in more than just the geographic sense. Palin was a supporter of Pat Buchanan in 1996, and earlier this year she had kind words for Ron Paul. "He’s a good guy," she told MTV News, "He’s so independent. He’s independent of the party machine. I’m like, ‘Right on, so am I.’" Or so she was.

Whatever independence from the Republican machine Governor Palin may once have had ended as soon as she accepted John McCain’s offer.

Maybe, hope she keeps her independence but not holding my breath, still....maybe she will. I would vote for her but not for the dem and vc collaborator that wants fed control of any sale or transfer. Not to mention the cancellation/violation of the 1st amendment. Look on the bright side, if the obomination wins, the republicrat and nra sycophants will try to fight instead of blindly endorsing what is done to them by those "fighting for their rights".

She is the carrot.

Obama/Biden is the stick.

Guess who its being used on?

BTW, it's a brilliant move by McCain. He rescues the Republican good ole boy network in Alaska, compromises and perhaps neutralizes a reasonable conservative, all the while garnering every formerly opposed Republican constituency to his side.

Well Jefferson's dead. So is Reagan (though I had some serious issues with him as well). I sure as hell ain't voting for the closet raghead. So I guess that leaves McLiar and his hot little running mate.

The best thing John can do for us is die in office - early.

One of the highlights of Palin's speech presented to us on the front page this morning is "stay the course in Iraq. Victory is in sight, and Obama wants to forfeit."
Oh, also "Al-quaida terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America. [Obama]'s worried that someone won't read them their rights."

As someone who seemingly half the country considers a DOMESTIC terrorist for just owning a gun or five -- and please see the case of the noncriminal schoolteacher nearby on this site -- I AM worried about the rights of SUSPECTS. Five years at Gitmo before they even get a trial? No phone, no lawyer (as the feds are fond of threatening on "NCIS."). Secret prisons in Europe. Warrantless wiretaps. Secret searches of citzens' homes. I remember a man in Kansas named Lawmaster. The ATF broke in after they saw him leave, cut open his gun safes, dumped everything in a pile on the lawn, and when everything checked out legal, left it there with a note: "ATF. Nothing found."
That was about 15 years ago. They were forerunners. Now every alphabet agency wants to do it. When we get the semi-auto ban renewal, whichever president we get will say "Carry on, business as usual."
Unless they're TRUE outsiders.

I like the idea of her sitting in the Senate with a 5,000 watt spotlight shining it on everything they do.

I'm going to suggest this to her. I can't think of a better job for the VP to do.
