The settlement agreement filed Tuesday in federal court calls for the National Rifle Association and Second Amendment Foundation to drop their case if the city follows a plan for returning guns to owners who had them seized by police after the Aug. 29, 2005, hurricane.

The Second Amendment Foundation assisted NRA in the legal battle against Mayor Ray Nagin and the City of New Orleans.That was the right thing to do. Now didn't it feel good?

I'll wager a Guinness that many never see their tools again, as somewhere along the way they joined the ranks of 'prohibited persons'.
But it will take a lawsuit to get the final tallies.

Could be worse. They could have held the gun OWNERS that long. Illegally, of course, but so is what they did do. And every police department official involved now has a better job and salary.

Just finished reading "The Great New Orleans Gun Grab". Too bad all that's left is rusted and broken remnants that have been stored for years in the back of a Ryder truck.

Personally, I wouldn't be satisfied until quite a few heads were rolling around hither and thither.

Correct me if I am mistaken, but wasn't there already a court decision on this that required the NO cops to return these illegally seized guns?
I believe there was, Nimrod. But there were no penalties provided for not doing so. The lawsuit by SAF raised the specter of having to pay for non-compliance.
Just like the cops fled N.O. before,during and after the hurricane, Nagin and other city officials are now fleeing their responsibilities also.
