The Choice Should Be Mine

The choice should be mine, not that of some boot-faced politically-correct police officer anxious to maintain his monopoly of force - and anxious to ensure that his idea of the law should be the only one available. [More]
Exactly.

The writer is one of those guys who alternately makes me cheer and then in the next sentence makes me want to slap my forehead and scream.

I caught him in a good sentence, here.

"Contrast the police force's zealous efforts to stamp out private gun ownership with its own rather poor efforts at responsible gun use, as a result of which quite a few people (one stark naked in a well-lit room) have been shot by mistake or as a result of over-reaction by armed officers. As it happens, I find these mistakes and over-reactions quite easy to pardon. Which of us, in such situations, could be sure he would do the right thing?"

Actually, I agree with that comment. He said he found it easy to pardon a cop for making an honest mistake in defending himself, then later lamented the fact that the "common folk" aren't afforded the same courtesy.

I think as a society we need to come to grips with the reality that sometimes tragedies happen and we can't always make them right by infringing on freedom, throwing people in jail, or suing the hell out of someone.

Hitchens' later comments about the dimwittedness of comparing alcohol and marijuana was worthy of a facepalm, though.

well, for one, i wouldn't let the muzzle cover a stark naked man in a well-lit room that i wasn't willing to destroy.

so, unless there's some other example... facepalm.

and i kind of would like to spend some time in a "cannabis ward" of a mental hospital. that's a suspicious concept, and it would be interesting to see just what the british are using their mental hospitals for.

Well, I don't know the exact circumstances of the stark naked man in a well-lit room. I can think of several instances where I'd shoot an unarmed stark naked man in a well-lit room.

I really dislike the guys writing style and can't help feeling he's full of himself.
However on the topic of his feelings that cops can make a mistake and kill someone and its all good. Here's the problem with that line of thought in the real world. When a cop kills someone even if that person didn't do anything to justify such actions the cops lie their asses off about what happen. Lets look at the kid who was shot in the back as he was belly down and had his hands chained behind his back. Never mind he was pleading for his life, which really bothers me because no one has ever asked what was said or done by the cops to make the guy plead for his life. Nevertheless one of the filthy pigs shot the kid in the back. So what did the rest of the pigs do? They at once started going around taking everyone's cell phone away from them to hid the truth.
Here's the big difference between a cop killing someone whom didn't do anything to be rewarded with such actions. The system circles the wagons and does whatever it takes to clear the cop. When a citizen kills someone who was clearly a death threat. The system circles the wagons and does everything that they can to drum up charges against that citizen. Thats why the citizens demanded new laws to protect them against the scum in the criminal justice system.
The demeanor of parasites in any branch of government is bad news for the people. These people have zero respect for the money they take in through taxes because these scum sucking bottom feeders have never done an honest days work in their lives. Of course they lie to themselves and tell themselves they do real work. But the fact is clear they work in a job that a profit isn't needed to stay in business.
In our world today the filthy stinking parasites see the world as, Us vs Them. I'm perfectly fine with that but let be known that they are the ones that called that into play and not the decent hard working citizens.

Sound about right, thanks for pointing that out. I did notice the last name and thought, no way could parents produce to POS like that out of the same family. I maybe should have been a little more open minded, LOL!
