Cartwright was a former contract security guard who had provided ARMED gate security for Hurlburt Field AFB. He had applied to join the GS civilian ARMED guard force that recently replaced the contract guards at Hurlburt.So... this guy was licensed and certified by the state to carry a semi-automatic pistol as his JOB, did so on a USAF base (a Special Ops base, no less), AND passed a federal background check to boot.
I am told these are his licenses (not the same as CCW). My understanding is a D license is to be a security guard and a G license is to be an armed security guard. Note I provided these links for information only, and am not implying any connection between Cartwright and this security school.
