"What concerns me is the increasing willingness of criminals to use guns to kill people," he said. "Gun crime in Islington (North London) increased by 148 per cent last year."
Yep, sounds like citizen disarmament is working just fine across the pond.
Say, I've got a swell idea: why don't we try that here?

It is just such a surprise! We only see this exact same dynamic everywhere and every time gun control is instituted. We have seen this with such regularity that it could be called an immutable law of the universe due the reliability of the same violent outcome.
Of course, he expected it to be different this time. (uh huh) We can be pretty sure that he knew this would happen and now he has more reason to push for harsher controls on people. This is about people control, the criminals are their unwitting partners.
The insanity here is that people follow and do not make these destroyers of society pay for their misdeeds. Much as we are trying to recover from in our country. Insanity is always doing the same thing and always expecting different results. We seem to be recovering, but we have yet to punish the carriers and infectors that spread this virulent form of insanity.
When we start to jail our politicians that pass laws violating our constitution, and the rights of a free people, then we shall truly be on the road to recovery and not just in temporary remission.
Banning those nasty ol' guns didn't work. So let's double ban them. Make it TWICE as illegal to own or posess a firearm. That oughta fix it!
Ban 'em twice? Well, you're not far off the mark. In addition to banning real handguns, they've banned brocock system gas guns and they are now moving to ban other replica guns- not real guns, REPLICA guns. Expect a ban on airsoft guns to follow and then a ban on ALL toy guns when that doesn't work.
What then? Ban the word "gun"? Maybe, these hoplophobes will "try it again, harder", in the words of Smallest Minority, until they've exhausted every anti-gun law they can. What happens when they've realised all of that has done nothing to defeat gun crime is up for debate. Will they realise that gun laws don't work? Will they accept that their whole philosophy has failed? Somehow, I don't think so.
