The weapon is called a F-N Five-Seven Handgun. According to the safety alert obtained by The Boston Globe, the handgun fires bullets at such a high speed, they can punch through a bulletproof vest.
Just once I'd like to see an "Eyewitness News Team" comprised of more than vacuous bubbleheads with no actual knowledge of their subject matter.

That's a pretty cool gun, actually. I suppose it would be a bit overkill (or at least, over penetration) for civilian self-defense, but I'll be the armed forces would love it for urban combat.
Well, Tom, I suppose that would all depend on who the civilian is defending himself against, don't you think?
.... we wouldn't want "civilians" on equal footing with their masters .... now would we? They might cease to be "loyal" subjects ... get all kinds of crazy ideas ... or ideas, period. Imagine the dread a high-risk entry team would feel when entering your home if they thought you might have one of these weapons (or the specially controlled/regulated ammunition).
No, it's better and safer if you don't have this dastardly weapon. Otherwise, they might have to politely knock on your door. Can't have that. Or worse, they might have to actually listen to you or even acknowledge your rights. No ... it's much better this way ... no overkill ... at least none on your part ... hmmm, wonder what a flash-bang through the living room window feels like?
My goodness, what a shocking development. There is no such thing as a bulletproof vest. Only whiskey can make you proof against bullets. Or, at least I used to think so.
I own a CZ52 which was made 54 years ago. It fires a 7.62x25 bottleneck round, holds eight in the magazine and will penetrate soft body armor. This story is not news, even if the efficiency of the weapon is accurately described.
I always sneer at these pansies that insist on equipment superiority in every aspect. I really hate the "law enforcement only" designations some manufacturers put on their weapons and ammunition. Aristocracy is not allowed in this country. Since they aren't priveleged aristocrats, they must be whiny weaklings to require such advantage on Suzy Homemaker. Awwww, bwess em widdle hearts.
For that matter an arrow will go through the most effective soft body armor on the market. Why don't we just arm all law officers with "law enforcement only" bows? ONLY, just a thought :)
I have a 57 and I LOVE it! What other, relatively medium frame, handgun is there that holds 20+1? And I generally carry 3/4's loaded and 3 spare mags. (Prepared for ANY eventuality).
A friend of mine did a 5 round speed test, at a distance of 50ft. 3 in the SAME HOLE, and the flyers less than a 1/4" away. ALL within the size of a dime. Another buddy shot a javelina at 100yds. One shot, and it fell over. Went up to retrieve it, and couldn't find the entrance wound. Flipped it over and the exit would was a little larger than an average fist.
Almost every cop that has seen it has exclaimed, "You can't have that! It will go right through a vest!" I smile, tell them I that, indeed I CAN have it. And then say, "Yeah, your right. it CAN go through a vest. With the RIGHT ammo." (The 'WRONG' ammo has been withdrawn from the masses, of course).
Tom - The new ammo will expand on impact, avoiding over-penetration.
wild deuce - David is right. This "civilian" is on equal footing, or SHOULD be anyways. As in all actuality, WE are THEIR MASTERS.
