Before the gun was discovered at the jail, it was apparently in the suspect's boot while he rode in a police car, while he was questioned at police headquarters and while he was being booked at the Wake County Jail.
Sorry for the horrible pun, but it seemed to fit...

Why have there been so many recent stories about the police missing guns during their frisks? We had an officer miss a gun during a check here in Michigan (I think it was last year, maybe longer) and the criminal killed a detective.
Had me worried for a minute there that this was another story from England: "in the suspect's boot" indeed...
