D For Discourage

Time and Newsweek have both published reviews written to dissuade their readers from wanting to see the upcoming 'V for Vendetta'.

Why do you suppose they would do that?

Though I have only read the book, it seems to be that both reporters are missing the key difference that separates V from terrorists as we know them.

In the book, V specifically attacks the organs and individuals of the totalitarian state. Yes, he blows up the Parliament building, but in that world it's the same as blowing up the headquarters of the Mukhabarat. Then, he spends most of the movie surgically assassinating key figures in government oppression.

Now, I'm sure the movie is to some extent anti-American slop, and I have a sneaking suspicion it will also be anti-gun. However, its larger sentiment about the proper relationship of a government to its people is just. Based on the reviews, I can only assume that, as is often the case with the journos, their knowledge of the book, and perhaps even the movie, are cursory at best.
