The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) on Tuesday announced that perfume bottles and umbrellas, among other things, will not be allowed inside passengers' carry-on bags...Y'know, I proposed a perfectly safe and secure way to conduct commercial air travel almost five years ago and am still waiting for the authorities to implement my idea...

Perfume Control: Why the Hell Not?

Nothing like soaking wet,stinking passengers.
I'm actually in favor of perfume control. Of course, I suffer from chemical sensitivies and mine happen to be in volatile napthalenes. The solvents used by Avon, Bath & Body Works, etc. hit me about 100 times more than they do the average person. Since they're Central Nervous System depressants being trapped on a plane with an Avon lover can literally stop my heart. Terrible headaches too.
Of course, being a reasonable person I just tend to avoid things like airplanes even though society tells me I really should just insist that everyone else change to suit me.
I believe David, that my solution is much more elegant. Simply issue a loaded firearm to every adult passenger with their boarding pass and collect them at the end of the flight as they leave the concourse.
Any passenger not comfortable may refuse the firearm. The two hours prior to flight time that is now standard for passenger arrival at the terminal could be used to teach the rudiments of gun safety to the previously unqualified.
Of course, this would be too effective in stopping hijackings, so has little chance of adoption.
Here is another proposal for airline security. This is not, worksafe, contains strong language (a lot of strong language) but this guy had me laughing so hard my stomach hurt.
YMMV (tinyurl incase long one gets cut)
